I really struggle with my short term planning, knowing how many 'topic' activities, be it adult lead or child lead, to set out each week. We have an interest table linked to the topic but I find that I tend to plan for the role play area to be linked to the topic and a couple of adult lead activities each week. I feel I should be offering topic based activities daily but do struggle to think of enough to offer. But then I think that if our settings are suppose to be mainly child initiated then just a small injection of topic based activities is enough - just to introduce them to new experiences. Oh I don't like topics ppp

Key-workers Input Into The Planning

I'm just wondering how other people manage their planning? Currently all my team meet to plan the activities for the topic (medium term plans). Two members of staff then take it in turns to meet weekly to plan according to the childrens interests and adult-led activities ( weekly plans). I'm thinking of changing it so the room leader and myself meet every week to plan as i find that the staff are not meeting the standards i set if they are left to do it themselves. I have done in house training with them and discussed this in meeting but it doesn't seem to change much! Do your room leaders do the plans with input from the rest of the team? How is this done?…

I am due to start work on Tuesday in a pre-school setting and have spent the past couple of weeks working with my manager to develop a suitable planning system. My manager is keen to use a long term plan, but having read numerous threads on here, I am beginning to worry a little bit that this is not what we should be doing. This is my first real experience of planning within the EYFS since it became statutory. I didn't have to do it at school and in my previous nursery we were trialling it so it is pretty new to me. Should we be using LTPs now or should we just be saying that the EYFS is our LTP. If the latter, I don't understand <wails> Also, I'm a little…

I am breaking my head! At the beginning of the school year we have to present a year planning topic list and it is based on festivals which depend on the variety of cultures/faiths in the class and on topics which year after year have been a 'hit' with the children. Last year I took 3 weeks in September to centre hard on "Sounds" as a matter of reviewing, assessing the children to the Letter's & Sounds Phase One and going forward to Phase Two. I know that Phase One is an ongoing phase even when you go to the next levels, but I did notice that doing this really helped them a lot and would like to do it again this year... BUT... at the same time, I would have liked to u…

Right, have been having a play, bearing in mind I don't start until September and have very little idea how the planning meeting will go that is my first day!! I have a meeting with the preschool team in the morning to plan then the reception teacher in the afternoon presumably to tie all the planning together (we are a FSU partnership) I was given a Medium Term planning sheet with a 2 year rolling plan (which says to me Long term plan not medium, but still.....) and the topics Ourselves, then family, senses and hands and feet underneath. There is also then the topic of Autumn. I have tried to put something together so that I have an agenda as it were when I start…

Hi all, Wondered if anyone had any ideas for a wall display related to a popular book... We did 'The tiger who can to tea' then all the children had the opportunity to make/decorate a dinner plate - talk about their favourite food - use a selection of media Also done 'Rainbow Fish' and the children made fish bowls so although the 'template' was the same the end results were all very individual. Thought about doing 'Mrs Honey's Hat' with the children making their own hats to display. But I really wanted something to link with topic of friends/family. Any other ideas would be gratefully received!! Thanks,

One More Question.....please!

Ok, yes im still going on about planning...weekly! My one question is........................do you have on your weekly plans a list of areas you have available for continous provision and then add items/resources etc to them as you observe the children and follow their interests? or do you have your planning broken down into areas of development and fill in these with the resources etc you would use to enhance this are of development? does this make sense? Im not sure From Sept we have the new 'learning journals' to use and I have been reading through and I can see how these will work...i.e planning from obs for the individual child but my mind is blank as to h…
