Baseline Assessment In Pre-school?
by Guest- 9 replies

Hi again, Two posts in one day? I must be getting worried.... The teacher in me really wants to do some kind of assessment of the children during the first few weeks of September, just to see where they are at and so that we don't overlook anybody's skills, or lack off. I think it can be easy to take a general snapshot view of a child at the beginning and not notice their actual strengths and weaknesses in different areas. I would like to put together something, a slightly watered down version of the old reception baseline assessment (does that still happen?) that looks at what the children can do and helps us to plan their next steps. Obviously I wouldn't …

Choosing Board?
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi I wonder if anyone can help. In sept we are changing into a foundation Stage Unit. We wont have many children, 30 at the most I think. The unit will consist of 2 rooms and an outdoor area. We are going to use one room, as the continuous base, for example, self register, register, whole group time etc. Someone suggested using a choosing board and having this static in this room too. So when we have completed the register the children can then choose what they want to do, by putting their name next to an activity on the choosing board, depending on the number of spaces that the activity allows. Ie, sand, water, small world, mark making area etc. Does anyone else…

Keyworker Book?

Hi, New to this so please bear with me. Im hoping someone can help. In our setting we use the development matters statements as one our assessments, called a keyworker book, and you tick the statement with a date and evidence of when you observed them do this. I am struggling to find a template or example though as we are now taking two year olds and five year olds so we have lots of extra sections to cover in the eyfs. When I tried adapting these into our old format it was 35 pages long which is bordering on ridiculous! Any help on keyworker tick charts/books would really be appreciated, thankyou! Jo

Learning Journeys

Hello, I am venturing back into the world of pre-school having finished my TA contract in July and I have noticed many people are now talking about Learning Journeys. I am not sure if this is a new thing or an old thing given a pretty new name! Apart from my brief stint at school, I have had very little to do with all things early years (apart from being with my own children!) so am trying to gen myself up again in anticipation for the year ahead. My understanding of learning journeys, and it is probably way off, is that they are basically the observation folders we used to use for recording children's learning/experiences etc. Does that sound about right? I'm thinkin…
