Does anyone do yoga with their children? I am wondering whether to give it a try for our topic 'Healthy Me!' Can anyone suggest a good DVD aimed at pre-school children?

Hi, We are finding this cohort very hard work during tidy up time. At the moment we stop, gather together and 5 helpers go and tidy-up with a special helper badge on. The idea is that they become familiar with where to tidy everything with guidance from 2 adults, before all the children helping. Last year, we gave children a particular area to tidy-up, so the children would stop and go to their areas. It doesn't seem to quite 'work' for me that children don't tidy away where they are currently playing (we do get the children to tidy away after they've finished playing with something, bringing them back to the area if they've forgotten but it doesn't always work perfect…

Hi everyone, I have recently become a manager for a day care nursery, and I was just wondering if any of you use Letters and Sounds or Jolly Phonics. If you do did you send your staff on any training for if, if you did then, where? Thank you!!

I'm not sure if this topic has already been covered on here so I apologise if it has. We are trialling NurseryBook to see if we can come away from the usual paper learning jouranls we have been doing forever. This has not come easily to many staff and as yet we have yet to share anything with the parents. My question for now is, if any of you use this format, what programme/system would you recommend, what are the costs invovled, have you found it benefical to your setting ie. staff and parents. Are you able to track your children via one of these systems? How often do you print off pictures etc, do you just produce a learning journal when the child leaves etc. …

hi all, I would like to know what your thoughts are on the following scenarios a) a 50 month old child has the 40-60 age band coloured in green (green=secure) for all aspects of C&L in her summative assessment. would you interpret that as the child being at the Expected Level or Exceeding when uploading it onto the tracker? b ) a 47 month old child has the 40-60month old age band coloured in orange (developing) for speaking, has the 40-60 month old age band in red (emerging) for listening and has the 40-60 month age band in red (emerging) for understanding. Where would you lace that child's development; expected or emerging? c)a child has green for sp…

Hi I am having a dads stay and play session and was wondering about any resources which you think might be useful to support the topic... The educational value of play... I have some parents who want their child to be able to read and write aged just 3... The child's is communication is poor and they are only just starting to learn to play. I wanted to gently highlight the benefits... Does anyone have any ideas on a simple leaflet to support this area. Thank you in advance.

How do other settings manage a child swearing ? We have had the odd word from children in the past , we generally ignore and it usually stops , if it persists we speak to the child about 'nice words and unkind words' etc - also a chat to the parents. But - this isn't working with this child ATM - it's in context , but he's not being aggressive (if you see what I mean ) Mum says his grandparents swear all the time in front of him - I've suggested she remind them to stop, as he has started doing it in nursery So - what tactics could we try ?

Hi, I am just developing some 'Play Packs' for families to borrow to support play and learning at home. I have decided not to call them 'Home learning bags' as I thought this might put pressure on parents or worry them about what 'learning' is and might take the fun out of it! (NB: We toyed with calling them 'fun bags' until someone pointed out the obvious!) Anyway, I've started the ball rolling with story books and finger puppets, then want to add some activities alongside this [for example: with the 'Little Red Hen' book there is a set of finger puppets and a recipe card with 2 different, child friendly, bread recipes) but I'm stuck at this more 'story sack' idea.…

I have been working in a reception class and the teacher was saying that in d&t they don't use clay till year 1. I'm not entirely sure why, is it because it's hard? I remember about 7 years ago at an early conference one of the speakers showed us a PowerPoint of pictures and there were two pictures of a child aged around 4, they were taken a few months apart and one showed her exploring clay which we were told she did most days for weeks and weeks and the next one was her working on a clay duck, showing that exploring and experimenting with a material on a long term basis meant she learnt how it behaved and how to mould it. This always sticks in my mind because it ma…
