Morning all x Couple of questions please!! Do you split into keyworkers groups to do activities each day? Activities you plan for your key children are they linked to learning or just interests then linked afterwards? Do you observe and plan for all your key children each week or on a rota basis? Thanks sharon

I wonder if anyone is brave enough to plan for the here and now? I would really love to be able to start the week with conversations with parents/carers and children about the things each child has been doing/is interested in over the weekend. Then I would like to plan activities based on this information and enhacing our continuous provision. The observations and evauation of the day would then inform next steps for the next day linked with another conversation with parents/carers and children the next day. Basically I would like to use three columns; 1 Child's interests from conversations. 2 How can I build on/develop these interests. 3 How did it go…

A little bit of advice please....I am about to start in a new position as 'Floor Manager' and am looking at the way the nursery recorded development in the past...they used the 'Somerset Pathway' which i guess is a similar set up as many LA's produce - basically the EYFS outcomes all in a little booklet - problem being I don't like them.....in a previous job I devised my own (as I am sure most of you do) giving staff more room to record and stick evidence in (photos, sticky labels etc). I have hit a problem in that the Admin Manager of the setting has already prepared new 'Pathways' for September and is reluctant to use anything else...I know that this is my area, my resp…

Sorry for such a vague title. I really wanted to tiltle it: 'Planning - ARRRRRRRGH!!!' I am the Pre School room leader with 2 members of staff and we each have a key group of 7 children who attend all day from one to 5 days a week. We follow the borough planning format of a medium term plan for general ideas and Development Matters coverage. Once a fortnight we fill in a discussion sheet for which we each take an observation of 2 key children and suggest next steps. I then create a 2 weekly plans to cover the next fortnight planning. These plans are tweaked as we go along. The problem is that I hate these plans as it means that over a period of a month only 12 of …

Hi My team have been discussing the different interruptions to the children's sessions, and the impact on their free-flow play, and would like to know what happens in other settings? Our interuptions are for; teeth brushing snack time carpet time pre-lunch lunch afternoon snack more teeth brushing transition to after hours care ( we move to a different room so the room can be cleaned) how do other settings handle this in their routine? Thanks, Ali

I have a observed a possible schematic interest in a little girl I look after (23mths) and was wondering if I could get some ideas of different things to provide to support. She is constantly trying to fit/push objects inside things eg. filling up an owl babies puppet with toys, pushing things inside the train track tunnel I'll get a variety of shape sorters out next time but if anybody has some creative ideas for resources, stories and songs to support they would be much appreciated

Has anyone started using the materials for assessing children's progress on the CD accompanying this pack? If so, what are your views? Do the materials compare favourably to the ones on the Progress Matters CD?

Photos In Scrapbooks 1 2
by Guest- 40 replies

Hi all Just wanted your opinions really... At my old setting we took lots of photos to put in individaul childs scrapbook which, when they left the pre-school they took with them. I loved them (as do the parents) as they say a picture says a thousand words! They were great evidence! New setting takes hardly any photos. Supervisor has sought advice and been told that photos should have only the one child whose scrapbook or learning journal it is going into as these will eventually leave the setting. As she says to just get one child in a photo can be quite difficult. Therefore they dont take many! I thought so long as permission for taking photos was signed then this w…
