Filling In The Gaps
by Guest- 1 reply

Hello all. I was just after your opinions please... I was having a chat with a colleague about planning the other day and she said they have got to the stage where they are filling in the gaps. Or in other words looking at what objectives have not been covered and planning for them. I felt uncomfortable about this as I don't feel it is "Personalised Learning" as required by the EYFS. But the more I think about if I wonder when those "missing" objectives would then be covered? Can anyone please shed some light on my confusion??? Thanks in advance x

I am trying to make a SEF form to use to evaluate whether the children are using the different areas within the pre school. So are they using the book corner to read/look at books, if not why not, what needs changing etc. Have looked in resources, but I couldn't find what I was looking for If any of you lovely ladies can point me in the right direction I would be most grateful Thanks in advance

Photograph For Observation Training Session
by Guest Wolfie- 9 replies

Some time ago, Peggy mentioned a photograph of a group of children that she used to start off a training session on observations - basically it was to make the point that observations need to be factual and objective and this photo usually promoted a lot of subjective observations and opinion! Does anyone know where I can get hold of something similar? I know that I could do my own but I wondered whether there are any commerical ones out there that almost "invite" misinterpretation and opinion!

HI I am a Reception teacher and am being observed teaching our nursery class. I am looking for inspiration to plan an activity that I could do with the children that will get them keen to be involved and interact. It can be a stand alone activity or linked to their current area of interest - animals Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks

HI all. like many of you we have played around with our planning loads. following a training course we got to the point that we did no weekly planning at all, but did have comprehensive continuous provision plans in place. instead our time was spent creating the most wonderful learning journey's for the children (a very time consuming task believe me). however staff felt they were getting bogged down and the chidren's choice was not being documented. i have looked at numerous planning examples on the EYFS disc and on here, and i have looked at my friends planning from her nursery. to be honest the lengthy adult led plans do not sit well with me. i do not understan…

Does anyone out there use the Essex Tracker to record their assessments of children's learning. I know of a couple of nursery schools that have used it for their 3-5 year olds prior to EYFS and have heard that a new version is being brought out for 0-5s...does anyone know any more about it?

Hi All I am a reception class teacher. I am doing some training for my local preschools before half term on Observation. Why observation is important and how we can use it. I want it to be relevant, but also have the difficulty that 1 or more of my preschools doesn't see much point in recording observations. Can anyone- give me an overview of the observations you do at preschool... so I am taking this from the right point. Just to say I did some training last year for my preschools on observations on different ways to record, why we should observe children etc.... looking for a different way to approach this. Thanks Lorna

Nursery Assembly

Hello everyone, It's coming up to that time in the year when I have to prepare an assembly for my 22 4 year olds to perform to their parents. Does anyone have any ideas? Last year my children acted out The Very HUngry Caterpillar and sung a lovely caterpillar song. Our theme was growing. Our assembly is in June and our topic will be growing again, and at the moment the children are loving our theme of The Seaside-so I could base it on this theme. Ideas would be very much appreciated xxxxx
