Sounds of Intent in the Early Years (SoI-EY) is an innovative resource based on pioneering research led by Professor Adam Ockelford, Director of the Applied Music Research Centre at the University of Roehampton, in London. SoI-EY sets out just how childrens minds develop musically, from three months before birth, so that by the time they enter full time education, they are already fledgling young musicians. This new findings mean that, for the first time, it is possible to target activities aimed specifically at individual childrens levels of musical development . I attended this on Thursday with little expectation but came away feeling inspired, Prof Adam was gre…

I am after some advice please. How do you all do your observations, assessment and planning with next steps just in simple terms. We have had a bad ofsted and the LA have got involved and have made me feel like I don't have a clue. We use ABC does forward planning sheets, we then add ideas onto continuous provision document, we highlight names to ensure all children are included. We look at the gaps in tapestry and then plan activities to support the achievement of next steps, obviously being aware of the whole child. Please help ?

Hi Sorry this is a long one but I am in a quandary at the moment. At our setting for the past couple of years we have been moving steadily towards a much more flexible , responsive style of planning that involves staff engaging fully with the children during each session and allowing spontaneous 'activities' to simply happen as we go along...e.g. a child is playing with a doll..an adult joins in and the baby play develops as several other children join in the adult suggests doll needs a bath or needs to go to nursery..this idea is taken forward moving into different areas of the room etc..maybe lasting an hour or so...and eventually involving several children. Nothing annoys and frustrates me more than to observe staff writing children's assessments, copying each statement from the EYFS Development matters in each area. How is this showing children as an individuals ? and shouldn't they be using their observations to support the assessments, as this is based on evidence actually observed. I find it rather lazy for staff just to put the development matters guidance, look at the child's age and copy word for word. I use the development matters purely for guidance ONLY and practical support for practitioners, as well as band current progress. What does everyone think, would like to know your thoughts ? Thanks

Hi all I want to create some parent information leaflets/booklets for a range of things like sensory play, early maths, developing communication etc... I have been staring at the screen for some time and just can't seem to create any thing simple purposeful but fun. Does anyone have any like this they would be willing to share or know of anything like this?

Hello everyone! This is my first time posting here, I have been childminding for few months and have recently bought Tapestry. I was hoping that someone could help me. I love that Tapestry give you ideas of next steps based on your observations, is there a way of showing/selecting which next step you are working on at the moment? And then showing that it have been achieved? I hope someone can help me, thank you :1b
