We like the majority of you are trying to find workable systems of planning. Keyworker have approx 10 children each and are currently trying to plan for them all over a two week period, Do you split your children and focus on a certain amount each week?

Hi all - hope everyone is enjoying a relaxing friday evening. I have a KUW obs happening in the next couple of weeks and am trying to get myself organised by starting to plan towards it now. Our current them is growth and change - we have done alot of work on seeds (planting beans etc) & are currently exploring life cycles - we have our caterpillars & are observing & talking about the changes in them (& keeping fingers crossed that they make the total transformatioon before the hols arrive!!!) - so i'm looking for KUW 9sciency aspects) ideas for my obs. Was thinking something linked to Hungry Caterpillar (as this will be the focus for our CLL activities) -…

From reading various topics on this forum - really useful by the way - I have read that many of you are completing learning journeys for your children - presumably a method of recording their progress towards the Early Learning Goals. Help! I've never come across these, is it something you have made up yourselves or is it a standard thing? At our setting we have our own All About Me books where we put photos and comments about what the children have been doing, but are still officially using the old Nursery Profile record booklets (without colouring the sections) - just writing comments or summarising that the child is working at the level expected for his age. …

Rather than sending the whole learning journeys home for parents to fill in, as I am so worried they won't come back again. I was wondering whether anyone had devised a form for their parents to write on, stick photos on etc.. Then you could just send the piece of paper home and stick it in the learning journey when it comes back. The parents can come in and look through the journey at any time at end of session rather than send it home. And if the piece of paper doesn't come back you haven't lost anything! Does anyone else do this and if so has anyone got a blank form they would be willing to share with me for ideas. Hope what I am trying to say makes sense and Than…

Hi all, Hope everyone is ok. Just wondering if anyone could help me please. I have an observation on tall and short in a week's time. I am going to use unifix tower building, cutting and sticking Jac'ks beanstalk, making tall short snakes, using skipping ropes to make tall and short worms, use planks outdoors, squirting tall and short water lines outdoor. Has anyone done any great activitie on tall and short in numeracy that they can share with me. Am thinking on the creative side too. My observer will be focusing on number and creative development. Thanks in advance. Love flowerxxxxxxx

Hi Have had our weekly planning meeting with 3-4s practitioners today and from lots of observations in the room this week a common strand that has appeared on our PLOD (possible lines of development chart) is 'rolling!' The team have come up with the obvious activities to meet the childrens interest of rolling - eg rolling themselves down grassed area, rolling hoops, balls etc, rolling dough, rolling marbles/golf balls in paint and then in trays. Just wondered if any of you have other ideas, especially linked to PSRN or KUW or possible 'rolling' enhancements to the continuous provision. Thanks. Karen

Hi everyone, I'm getting a bit bogged down with my planning at the moment - worrying if I should be fitting more things in/have more of a set routine to our week? Currently our daily routine is: 8.45am Register children. Quick intro to activities which sometimes includes a story/rhyme/song. Then prayers. 8.55ish Continuous provision and focused activity (this is usually an activity that all children can be involved in) 9.45am Doors open for choice of indoors/outdoors (this is soon to change to free-flow) 10.15am All children outdoors (staff breaks) 10.30am Tidy-up outside 10.40am Tidy-up inside 10.50am Story/songs/circle-time/rhymes/phonics/IWB/music (whole-grou…
