Sorry, another question, I need to get this straight in my head! I understand the idea that you follow each individual child's interests, it makes a lot of sense and gets away from the 'curriculum for babies' problem. But ... what if that child never shows an 'interest' in some areas (let's say counting or sand play) - can we still initiate and encourage that for him? Or do we completely follow what he wants to do? And if we always follow the child's lead, then what about those children from homes where they don't get much stimulation, and where their 'interests' aren't wide because they have never been introduced to a variety of experiences. Also, we are pl…

hi all yet again another thread on planning we really want to change ours as we think its done too far in advance. currently we use this weeks observations to plan next weeks activities but feel that by the time next week comes the children may no longer benefit from this planning, eg child interested in throwing a ball, next week activity with balls child now interested in something else, we want planning to be more responsive/there and then or daily or retrospectively. how does this look on paper and work in pracitce? someone at another of our settings has suggested sitting together with the children in the morning to discuss what we should do that…

Planning Confusion 1 2

hi i am getting so confused with planning. we revamped ours if you like and now each key person plans for their key child on an individual basis (daily). therefore each child has a planning sheet in their file and planning is around the children's interests. staff understand that some children's interests will be ongoing and therefore they would continue with that theme for the child. (basically the children direct their learning) we have clear continuous provision planning up in all our rooms that relates to the age range and our environment and how the environement and adults role work in supporting the delivery of the EYFS the pre-school staff have high…

Hi everyone, I really want to change my planning template for FS and was wondering if anyone could post a link to a planning template that you use? Mainly for day to day focussed activities as opposed to Continuous Provision sheets? Thanks

Please can someone bring me up to speed with the usage of P Scales for assessment? Although I have a vague idea about how and why they are used, I suddenly need to develop a much better knowledge! In particular, do they ever have a place in the assessment of children under school age?

Hi all - We are currently working on developing our own continuous planning posters. Have downloaded some fab ones from here and elsewhere - thank-you. But we thought it would be good training to use these models and begin to develop our own ones specific to our setting and also it would be a really good exercise to get staff really familiar with resources, what they can get out of them and the EYFS. We have been through each area of development for each area of provision (started at 22 months right through to the ELG as we take children from 2years 9 months to school in one room) which we hope to plan for, but the problem is that as I'm sure you're all aware so many of…

Hi everyone, I was meant to go on a course on observations within the eyfs, but it was cancelled, one of my colleagues went on the same course at a different venue and came back saying that we should only be doing observations every 6 weeks, I am a bit confused is this right or does everyone do it differently? I appreciate your help.

Assessment

what scales are everyone else using to monitor childrens progress? we are currently using the old stepping stones at the moment and our local authority has produced an assesment scale called rds (or rods?) which is very limited and seems not detailed enough. do other people use the eyfs profile assesment scales reference sheet? or just refer to the development matters in the eyfs pack?
