We all carry out our key children's next steps with them each day, for example one of my key children enjoyed playing with the flour when we made cakes last week so this week I got some flour, lentils, water etc out for her to mix and play with (other children obviously were free to join in too) now I wrote that down on a sticker to put in her learning journey so i had evidence of why I did the flour etc to play with. Also we have a sheet up on a door in the room where if we see someone take an interest in something or see them do something that might need practising etc, we write it down with possible development plans (short ones as we do this when we see it) …

Ok, we are currently having a three week observation/ get to know the unique child period. At the end of which all key workers will fill out these sheets on their key children in consultation with parents Children__s_Interest_Summary_with_Next_Step_Ideas.doc At the same time we are looking at producing Continuous Provision Posters. Point Of Observations !
by Guest- 7 replies

Please help! I have had a long chat with my staff about the use of observations and being to worry about it so your ideas would be great please. My understanding ( which maybe wrong) was some are planned, some are not! You use them to inform planning of the chidlren's interest and inform summative assessment. Therefore ones on how they play and with whom and what they say on CI activties are worthwhile. They do not have to be on a activty which was adult lead one day and the next there to be reinforced by the child themselves only. PLEASE HELP !
