Separate Classes?
by Guest- 2 replies

Hello everyone. I LOVE this forum by the way. Anyway, at the moment my Nursery class (attached to a school) is becoming over subscribed. I need to think of a way to make it easier. The problem is that we have put two age groups together-rising 3s and 3-4s who will go into reception in September. Currently we are considering dividing up these two age groups into separate classes-however Im not sure what would happen in September-wouldnt they all be the same age?? Bit confused....Any ideas or what you have at your setings? xx

Hi all x We are full day care and have workshop areas set up which have lots of resources in them, we have most items which are listed on our continious provision sheet in these areas available to the children all the time. The Nursery is constantly a mess and Im sure a health and safety hazzard! Mainly due to the younger children (2's) just empting boxes despite being constantly reinforced to put things away when they get something else out Im aware as Ive read in many other peoples posts staffing is a problem, we have max 4 staff a day ,one in each room, one in the garden and one floating doing nappies watching ratios and toileting, leaves little time for mu…

Adult Led Activities

Hi I am struggling with the child initiated and adult led activity balance in the EYFS and would really appreciate some help. We are a pre-school and currently run with free flow play from opening to tidying up time during the morning. My long term planning is evidence that all the activites offered in the session provide for each element of the EYFS. So basically the child initiated is in hand. I really struggle with the adult led. If children are playing and engrossed, adults interacting and scaffolding and supporting learning where does the adult led come in? Currently we plan an adult led. This week for example, from child interest, we have magnets, a scient…

Hi all, we had a staff meeting the other day and we've decided to plan around the children whenever there is not a festival or event to cover. Last week we did winter as all the children were talking about what they had done in the snow etc. Next week we are doing all about me theme as a couple of children are moving or have just moved, also a few children have been very interested in peoples eye colour. Would you mind looking at my planning please and telling me if it looks ok, what needs adding/taking away. I have continuous provision sheets for everythign so really the plan is showing what we get fomr the activities that are planned - does that make sense and…

Currently the nursery I teach in has a folder for each child which contains settling in & room transfer sheets, a piece of work for each month and observations. They are heavy, ugly and never looked at so I want to start a Learning Journey file for each of my Pre School children which contains their observations, profiles, photos etc but have no idea where to begin. How did you start yours and what do they contain. Pleeease help!

Hiya,, Firstly thank you sooo much to all the people that have shown me the link to southamptons learning journeys. It has been an inspiration and I have made my own version, which my nursery has agreed with implamenting across the whole nursery (100+ places) so its very exciting! My question is that how can we incorperate the rods (don't know if this is the right term, i have little knowlegde of this). My manager has been saying its complusery (?) so i've been wondering how other people have adapted this to fit? any advice/help would be great! thanks

Do you set up your outdoor environment daily and do you have a written plan of what you will get out. If so is it under the 6 areas of learning or do you have workshop areas set up outside ? We are just about to get stuck into our outdoor area - it has been suggested by our EYAT that we purchase storage units and set up workshop areas like we have indoors-but we cant imagine how it would work setting up workshop areas with units full of resources - we just about cope indoor s let alone having al that outdoors as well! any comments ideas and suggestions would be fantastic thanks x

:oCould anyone please let me know how they are getting on using photos as evidence in observations, and have you got any examples of the forms you use with them? I have made up an adult-ld activity sheet which we are currently using with the photos. I am happy to share these if anyone interested. Thanks Angie
