:oCould anyone please let me know how they are getting on using photos as evidence in observations, and have you got any examples of the forms you use with them? I have made up an adult-ld activity sheet which we are currently using with the photos. I am happy to share these if anyone interested. Thanks Angie

Hi Well looking at doing a couple of these tomorrow but need a little help on how to do them. Have done an Oxford Target child one but not sure of format of unstructured narrtive. Is it for just a few minutes a couple of times during the sesion...do you pick and choose the time, or set the time eg at 9.30, 10.30, etc Do you just note everything and anything and for how long? Quite tiring? Hand writing wise! Any guidance please! Thanks

Please can someone help me. I am trying to design an easy to use form for my staff to complete half termly on their key children. I want it to link to the themes and princlples of the EYFS and to show next steps etc..... I just can't get started. Does any one use such a document? Think it is sometimes called a Learning Journey?

Hello all, This is my first post here but I have been browsing for a while. You guys are very experienced and your advice has been very helpful. Your advice would be enormously welcomed to me on an issue... I am a newly appointed children centre teacher and I had been discussing a child with our health visitor. She is basically in a plaster on her legs and can't move much. She has asked my help to provide some activities for her parents to keep her busy at home. I have a few ideas but would love to hear your views and buil;d a larger bank of activities. She is 2 .5 and in leg plasters. Please help!!! Many thanks in advance.

Able Children

I am searchiing fore some help / advice > We have a group - about 6 children all going to school in Sep 2009 who will all be 5 within weeks of starting school . They have all been with us since they were 2.5years and are all really ready for the next step - big school . We are finding that they are really needing , for want of another way to say it , an academic challenge. Our planning reflects their interests but I am wondering in light of EYFS how far can we go in providing them with more challenging activities - for instance they can all add , know their initial sounds and are all confident and ready for the next steps . I am not suggesting worksheets and formal…

Ok. Looking for some honest opinions! When you all do your observations do any of you use the following ones? Oxford Target Child Long narrative Time Sampling Tracking Sociogram? Or do you find yourself jotting things down on post it notes and scraps of paper? In an ideal world i would love to think we could use some of these but they seem to take up so much time and effort! time I should be playing with the children! Reason why im asking this...its all part of my diploma in pre-school practice. All these methods are the ones recommended to observe children and my first assignment has me completing 4 diff ones on the same child. Having been in touch with m…

Letters And Sounds Advice
by Guest- 4 replies

Hi Everybody, I think this might be the first topic I have started so here goes... We follow the Letters and Sounds in my nursery setting and all the advice and training I have received on the subject says to leave Aspect 7 until the Summer Term and then only use it with the children who are going to school and are ready. I have several children in my key group who are more than ready for Aspect 7, they have been hearing the initial sounds of words for ages and are now starting to express an interest in sounding out other words and today, bless them asked me what comes after 'e-l-f-a' in 'elephant'! ( I was thinking we will start with 'c-a-t' 'd-o-g' etc, ambtious…

I am in the middle of changing my classroom into self selection areas. I have already completed my construction area and it's working very well with the children. We have boxes for each set of toys and they are labelled with photos and writing. Im now looking forward to starting my next areas but I would be grateful to see some photos of how other areas are set up..furniture etc. Thank you x
