Hi, I'm currently reading Anna Ephgrave's 'A nursery year in action'. I already own the Reception one but thought I'd like to read this one too to get any updates and more inspiration/reassurance. I am of course inspired but as always have a couple of queries!! I can't ask the lady herself so I'm going to ask the forum! My query is over the next step section of her learning journey sheets. She explains in the book that she doesn't keep records of next steps so I'm wondering what she does with the next steps written on these sheets. The actual wording is Areas for future focus, so is this just things to remember to do? We have done focused children similar to her style …

Hi everyone, I've attached (hopefully) a cohort tracker that i have made myself, i find it really useful and easy to use. For me, the colours used makes it easy to see at a glance if a child has made progress or if a certain group of children is struggling in an area. Hope you find it useful too. tracker.xlsx

I have a meeting on Thursday evening with our LA where they want to discuss using the Kent tracker. I know a few of you on here are from Kent, what do you think of it? We use Tapestry so am a bit dubious about it. Can they work together? Do they need to?

Hi, I've got a 30 min observation for a job in Nursery (I am currently doing the job part time, this is to get it full time in the same school). There is an external candidate too, so it's not 'in the bag'... My time is 10-10.30, which is right in the middle of our session (session time is 8.45 til 11.45) so we will have had an introduction to the day on the carpet, and be in freeflow/adult led mode! Would it be rude of me to write a letter to management to explain that I'm more than willing for the observation to go ahead, but we will be in the middle of a session, which will show the experiences and challenges provided for the class, plus my interaction with the…

Hi, Just wondering whether anyone sends little suggested activities that the parents could do with the children, linked to what they have been learning that week? (NOT REALLY HOMEWORK!) I know that many settings have home learning bags but we are not going down that route due to lack of money and also that our parents are on the whole very supportive and are more than willing to put suggested ideas into practice when discussing next steps. We have a text service at school, so I am consider just suggesting little ideas e.g. this week we have been talking about the size of different objects and been playing a game on xxx website if you would like to try it with your chi…

Hi all, We have changed our planning forms so many times and I finally thought we had it sussed. But... it is extremely time consuming, as in it takes an hour at least each week in our meeting to discuss the children, what we want to do, what they want to do and add everything on to the sheets then it takes up more of my time inputting it all on to the computer ready to print off monday mornings. All my staff moan about it and although its time consuming I have chose to continue to do it this way as I felt it worked. However, I did tell my staff I would look into it and share any suggestions with them in our meeting before we return to work on Monday morning. I have been…

Hi Folks I am trying to encourage parents to come into the setting and join in with our activities. These include meals out, stay and play sessions, some gatherings with children and others without. Do you have any suggestions for reaching those parents who don't engage. I have some (a few) parents who join in with everything but others just don't want to know. What kind of activities have you set up or training that has worked well. I am going to send out a questionnaire but all help gratefully received. Thanks x

Hi, I'm trying to think of some resources/activities to promote using language to describe the size of objects. Outdoors or indoors. I've thought of collecting leaves and sorting them on a washing line. I'm feeling a bit brain-dead at the moment. Thanks, Green Hippo xxx

Hi I was just wondering how settings are spending this extra money! and what monitoring systems you have in place for this, I currently have two children who are receiving this money, one of them has poor social skills and is only happy when with an adult, the other shows no interest in mark making. I did receive money for 4 other children last term, however this money was paid at the end of the school year and they have now left me, should this money be set aside and used for child in receipt of the EYPP? Any advise would be most welcome, I'm due Ofsted at any time and therefore worried that I haven't any evidence on what we have done with the money. Thanks
