Planning For Birth To 5

Help! I have been asked to plan for a parents group catering for children from birth to school age. The group will run as a drop in session one afternoon a week. The local children's centre have ordered us some resources (still not sure what these are!) but I am worrying about the planning. I work in a foundation/year 1 class and we have no nursery. I am presuming that all I will need are continuous provision plans for the areas - as we don't know who will be there each week. Does anyone run anything similar? What sort of planning do you do? I suppose the baby area will depend on what the chidlren's centre comes up with, but as for the planning for other areas I am stump…

Hi, Am sitting here surrounded by my planning (I will NOT spend my weekend doing it again!) and am thinking about the changes I made to my planning through the week and where to go next. By Tuesday I had changed my teacher directed activity to a completely different activity with different learning objectives - informed by Mondays observations. Through the week I also changed other activities and/or objective to meet the needs of the children. Now I'm thinking whether or not I should back-track and plan to cover the learning objectives that I didn't manage to cover this week? I use my obs and assessments to inform my planning each week and identified that this objective…

Recording Children's Starting Points
by Guest- 5 replies

Having read lots and lots of inspection reports (how boring am I )- and of course the brilliant articles on here - I can see an emphasis on recording children's starting points. This was picked up by my inspector 2yrs ago and was a recommendation. I tried to explain to her that my Learning diaries showed progression from when children started but she seemed to want to see an actual record of starting points. I felt really uncomfortable as a childminder doing some sort of assessment on entry so decided that I would improve my Unique Child document that I give to parents to describe their child when they first join me. I have seperate sections for 0-2's and over 2's which…

Hey all, this is my first post, so would like to say hello to you all. I've recently returned back to work after being on maternity leave and have been moved from the baby unit into a 3-5 age group room. I have taken the post of room leader, but I feel totally adrift as I have little experience of this age group and have no knowlegde of the eyfs. From reading things on here it seams to me that i have a huge amount to do and to learn. To make matters worse the nursery has failed its last ofsted inspection and is due another at any time, so im running out of time. so my questions are: 1. We currently have weekly planning sheet which covers the areas of provision…

On Friday I had a little boy who was crashing about a bit, in over and through other children's play. Now this little boy lives opposite me and I know that Dad is busy sawing and measuring to make some new fitted wardrobes, and "Jack" has been watching him. So I went over and asked if he would help me put the workbench tools back tidy and then suggested that he could show "John" how his Daddy has been sawing up wood. I gave them a tape measure and showed them how to mark the wood with a pencil at the number shown on the tape measure, so they knew where to saw the wood (plastic saw). Now my question is this, obviously this part of the play is directed, as it was all …
