I have a child currently with us who has been finally assessed by the SALT. Her recommendations were that she needs to develop listening and attention skills and to practice pronunciation of /s/ and /f/. The child is 44 months. The SALT has sent some activities which I am appalled at - they are far too prescriptive and advanced for a child of this age and expect her to sit at a table while doing them. Parents report that if she does not want to sit and do them in the sessions, the SALT brings her back to the table and looks cross (the SALT intimates as much in her information to parents about developing the attention skills). Additionally I have many observations …

Retrospective Planning
by Guest- 2 replies

please can anyone help. I went to view a nursery last week and the head teacher stressed that they plan retrospectively. As the look round was done in a group, I didn't want to appear stupid by asking how this worked in practise, so can anyone please explain how it does work to me! How can planning be retrospective? seems to be a contradiction? or is it planning that is altered daily on the basis of what has happened? Thanks for any replies

I think we have got our observations in a managable format but it is our planning i am struggling with. I have looked throught lots of ideas and am using a variation on one that was posted a long time ago. my problem is we have two room a messy room - paint, playdough, water etc the other everything else. The everything else room is totally free choice except the shop that is sometimes other things. The messy room is also free choice for playdough cutters etc, paint is always available, drawing and sticking always available. The water tray sometime in or out is free choice and so is the sand pit. The only activities that are adult led would be cirlcle t…

I have now almost everything to date regards to the new planning of the EYFS, but have been told by our council that the informatiion that goes onto school will be a summary sheet, for us to write each child's achievements next to each area of learning, this is done every full term and updated. Does anybody have one that I could look at, so that I know what they are on about. thanks

Numbers For The Garden

I want some numbers for the garden. I'm thinking perhaps large wooden ones which could be hooked around the garden and then could be regularly moved so the children have to keep looking for them and then along one fence there could be lots of hooks so the children can find them, collect them in and order them. Has anybody seen any numbers that I could use for this purpose? I've found loads of different ones for inside but not sturdy ones for outside.

Hello! Does anyone have a short term plan I could cast my eyes over which incorporates Halloween and Diwali please? It is not to implement, just to see someone else's planning as in context with my own for the coming week! I would really appreciate it!

Shaving Foam!

One of the children came in today and said " mummy said I'm not allowed to play with the shaving foam anymore because its got a strong smell". We have a parent's evening on Tuesday and want to be prepared if this comes up. I buy shaving foam for sensitive skin but it does have quite a strong smell. the odourless ones seem to be so expensive. What shaving form does anyone else use?? I want to come up with lots of reasons why not to stop using it and these are some so far. Great for mark making - beginning to write names Great for exploring materials - talking about it's feel (and smell) It's great fun and the children love it! Anymore positive would…

Hi all, Just been on a course about a pilot approach to assessing pupils on entry to Nursery. Not so sure if it's going to give a true picture of the child but will try it and see how it works. Just thought I would share a couple of points from the course: 1. Assessments of children in the EYFS "should not be inappropriately linked to development matters but informed by development matters and look, listen and note. (read out from a letter from government sent to every LEA - the national strategy women can't remember her name Ruth P...?) 2. Practioners do NOT HAVE TO record day to day observations - practioners are allowed to store information in heads or anywhere e…
