We are still being told conflicting things by our Early Years team and EYATS. Can you help pleae? We open 8am-6pm our 2-5's are together all the time.we used to stop for a circle time first thing and talk about weather sharing news etc, then the children were free to play inside and outside. We would then stop for group time just before lunch and do a specific learning activity chosen by the adult relating to festival/celebration or something skill based . Some say carry on doing this (as above) and think its important that we have seperate time for 2-3's and 3-5's which I can see as our 3yrs seem to like that time away from the little ones, and others say fr…

Plannning From Observations

Hi! I am thinking about the ways to observe children in preschool and trying to get some sort of format/struture put together for the staff to follow....there is very little happening at the moment! So far; 1. All staff will observe spontaneously on sticky nores/post its for any child/ren. 2. 2 longer observations done by each keyworker per week (foramt of recording already complete for this) 3. Adult Initiated Activities - Observations done for these by each keyworker in their keyworker groups. I am confused as to what observations should inform the planning. All of them? Also, how to decide what learning intentions are linked to the activities we…

Planning Focused Activities

I am working specifically on the planning for a pre-school within a day nursery. When I started 4 months there was very little in place. At the moment the focus is entirely on free play. The children choose what they want to do, when they they want with little understanding of how to tidy up so staff generally do it! Anyway, I am going off in the wrong direction here! Basically, I feel that I need to implement some adult initiated focused activities. They do work around topics, for which I have done the planning etc. I am wondering how other settings account for this? I am looking for a quick and easy way to do this as the staff are quite stuck in their ways! I am un…

Planning For Birth To Three Children
by Guest- 0 replies

Hi All, Can anybody give me examples of how you are planning for your Birth to Three children in all your rooms. I have been told that Long Term Planning for this age group is unnecessary (which I agree with), and that medium term planning can be loosly based on 'ideas' or events. However, I am struggling with ensuring we are doing our short term planning right. My query is, how are you ladies and gents ensuring that you are meeting your children's interests each week, whilst doing planning for the whole room. Any examples would be much appreciated. I know you can differentiate, I know that if you are doing painting you can incorporate 'Sams' interest in…
