Hi to anyone who is out there! Need some clarification and help. I am in a pre-school with 70 children on the register and we are trying to get our heads around the EYFS for September. We had planned to create learning journeys in the form of a scrapbook, with observations, photos etc. and mark off the childrens achievements against the development matters listed in the EYFS to give us a basis for next steps planning and as a way to produce a transfer record for when the children go up to school. We read in the nursery education magazine that we are not to do this (typical) How do you record the stages of development of your children and do transfer reco…

Hi Everyone - I really need a rest and to put away all my pre-school bits for at least a couple of weeks, but I am really stuck I feel I have organised new eyfs planning ok - but I want to know how I should organise each individual child's development book or scrap book - we currently add our ad hoc observations and planned observations in date order, but I was told by my local authority Surrey that their individual records should be divided into the 4 themes - is that what everyone else is going to do - trying to get my head around how I will achieve this as they are all so interlinked??????? Any ideas Dot

Split Sessions

Hello all! Yup, it's me again! :-) I was just wondering if anyone could clarify a few things for me with regards to nursery education... I think I should know these things and I'm panicing that I dont!! With a split session nursery, do you use the same basic planning for morning and afternoon? I guess you vary it depending on the children but I'm a bit concerned that this will mean double the workload! Also, what does three-form entry entail? Do you get new children coming in each term? in which case doesn't your class get bigger and bigger?? I'm confused, and concerned. Any help or advice would be most welcome! xx

Leap Into Life

I know it's the holidays, but there seems to be so much to think about and wondered if anyone can help. Last term, for a variety of reasons, PE just didn't happen. Don't get me wrong we did various other activities, but we don't follow a particular PE structure. I was wondering if everyone has a particular programe they follow, or like me, a make up as we go along! I spoke to my early years advisor and she mentioned leap into life. Does anyone do this or does anyone know what it is? Apparently there is to be training next term but just wondered what others did. This is for 3 - 5 years. Sorry hope this makes sense. Jackie.

Hi everyone , I am new to this forum and can't believe how fantastic it is to be actually able to share information. I am too in the process of changing our planning to fit in with the new EYFS. Every time I think i'm there something else needs to be added. In the past when using the stepping stones stepped, we used to highlight the chart when we had observed the child at an activity achieving the particular goal. We used to use activity grids and jot a child's name onto the sheet if they came to that particular activity and achieved the learning intention. It was loved by OFSTED three years ago but hated by the new EYFS standards. (and if i'm honest, i inherited th…
