I have received a leaflet from Sound Learning selling ready made packs of Entry Records, Initial child profile, group planning and progress record with a CD-rom for the EYFS. Before I send off for it I thought I'd see if anyone has used it and if so do you recommend it and what did Ofsted think?

Hi I have recently been made a keyworker to a group of 5 children. As I am new to this role I'm very keen and enthusiastic. I was wondering what others do regarding observations etc when new children start in the setting. At the moment, my setting don't do any obs. for the first term as they regard it as a time for settling in rather than observing. I thought it would be a good idea to do some general observations right from the start, just to get an idea of the child's likes/dislikes, the basic stuff really. We had a training session last week on reflective practice and it got me thinking (quite a miracle, must have been a good day) What do you think? Sally

Electronic Assessment

HI I wonder if anyone has come across any decent software for assessing electronically children's progress in Nursery. We are looking for something for our Nursery. I have seen Target tracker and this looks good but wondered if there are any alternatives. I am a Reception teacher and use the e profile which is very effective but does not allow you to go back from the ELG's. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated if there is anything out there on the market. Or do we need something developed to help us with tracking our assessments

After years of topic based planning am taking the plunge and going to trial learning walls next week in a mixed Reception/Year 1 class. Don't feel totally secure but wouldn't even have taken the plunge without all the wonderful ideas, discussions and articles on here. There seemed to be a number of people who were keen to take this path and just wondered if anyone from this age range could share any experiences... Many thanks luluj

help! we been experiencing a fair bit of negative behaviour lately, i thought it would be a good idea to do a 'friends' theme for after half term but lacking a few ideas i want to include sharing, how we treat others, being kind etc. i thought we could do a circle time to get the children to talk about what rules we should have. but thats as far as i've got! need some inspiration pleease

Am hoping to use the idea of 'learning walls' in my assignment and was wondering how to reference them. Does anybody know where the idea originated? Thanks

The Blue Balloon

Hi! I am trying to plan for the topic 'The Blue Balloon' (the story by Nick Inkpen) it is on our 2 year rolling programme, which both nursery and reception follow. I am teaching nursery and am having trouble thinking of some fun activities. Thinking of things around the different forces- pushing, pulling etc. Wondered if anyone had any ideas that they could offer connected to the story at all?? Any ideas would be fantastic.
