Help needed. Up until recently we have had no access to outside play but have now managed to find some at the side of the setting that we have secured and made safe for the children. Unfortunately we cannot have free flow or have all the children out there at once (registered for 26) as the area is too small. Does anyone have this situation and if so how do you timetable everything in (session is 2 1/2 hours + lunch club)? Worried that the child initiated element of having a long free play session at present will be disrupted by having to interupt play for 'outside play time'.

Continuous Provision Areas - Eyfs

Hi, I'm currently truyng to update my provision areas. I work in a Children's Centre, so areas differ according to age groups. So Cosy Story Area in the Toddler Area becomes Book Corner in the Pre - school room, if you see what I mean.Well I would like resources and enhancements to focus prominently on my area information along with Effective practice/ Adult role. What I need now is the development part and links to the new EYFS areas of learinig so that they also can be part of Continuous provision information within the area. Does anyone have anything similar, or would like to share what they have done. I willl attach where I am up to so far. Thanks

Hi, were in the fortunate position of being able to design our own under two's garden . The basic design is great, but I need ideas for adding the finer details. They need to be natural and interesting for babies and younger children. I've thought of textured belts, ropes for pull ups, scarves to hang. .ect.. Has any else got any other inspired ideas?? Thanks

Daily Planning Changes

This week we changed our planning completely, i'll try and explain what we are doing now. We have introduced a learning wall and changed the planning by getting staff to write their own focus activities to cover their key children's individual needs but we are sitting the children down in the morning and afternoon to decide on what activities they would like to do that session. The children have decided on what topic's they would like to learn more about. This term the children decided on transport, they even told us they would like to look at the transport on their way in to nursery and visit the train station. this has all gone up on the learning wall and like…

Has anyone got a weekly/daily planning format that they use for their outdoor provision - I support a setting that want to develop the detail of their planning for outdoors to the same level as their indoors and I thought rather than reinvent the wheel....

Hi there I was going to let some people know about our new planning once we had some training and were given the relevant documents. As yet, we are still awaiting the rest of the training and the documents. Also, as someone wisely pointed out, i will have to seek there permission to show others the planning that they're suggesting we should try. Hope they let me share the planning, as they said it will be easy to trasfer into the new curriculum and Ofsted have been pretty impressed with it. Sorry for the late post Deb

Hi i manage a Montessori Nursery and we do not provide a designated area for role play, there is no home corners or dressing up either, there is also very little small world play. There are opportunities for the children to engage in role play through open ended resources and we try to provide materials for the children which support their need for role play and imaginative play, however this is limited. My question is does anyone have any ideas of further resources we could provide to ensure we meet the childrens needs in this area without a home corner, role play area, dressing up, small world toys and that are based in reality rather than fantasy. I fully support the…

We have been revamping our planning/observations i would be interested to know how evryone else is managing this. We have 24 children at out pre-school sessions. Each keyworker has two children to target for observations (we all still carry out incidental post it obs for all children) each week and then targets those children in the planning the next week.) Does anyone else use this system and do you manage to include all target children in the plan? Biker

Linking Schemas To Areas Of Learning
by Guest Wolfie- 6 replies

We record our observations of the children in files, under each of the six areas of learning. We have noticed one child displaying a very dominant schema - enveloping. Which area of learning would you record that under - or do you have a separate section in children's files to record pieces of information like that?
