Hello, Does anyone use objective led planning in pre-school? If so how do you go about it? I love the concept and think it will work, but I was hoping to get some downloadable information for my staff to read, but it is all based at reception, which will make them think I am crackers! Many thanks

Hi all for the past few years we have been using the DM's to track children's progress over the year that they are with us in Nursery. We break them down into stages for example in Communication and Language a child may come in say at band 4 (22-36 months) at a developing stage (we would call this 4d) but over the time they are with us may progress into the next band (5) and leave secure in that band 5s. We do this for all areas of learning and it has always worked well enough and we feel that the DM's give good coverage with the many statements. However, a member of the SLT want us to use Target Tracker to come in line with what the school we are attached to uses. My …

Just wondering what you think should be included to make an observation good quality? I am struggling with a member of staff. She has been on observation/assessment training, I have role modeled, done peer observations, given her loads of written info, lots of support etc and still her obs are very poor and don't tell you anything, for example 'John made some snips on paper'. I am looking for a few bullet points I can give to her to say this is what I looking for in an observation please.

Hi we currently use tapestry which we are getting to grips with. ? Last year each term we planned next steps for each child and shared them with parents. However it was not clear how this tied into planning. I wondered if anyone could share how they plan and if you do next steps or not. I've tried team planning for following week but they do not contribute. As room leader it falls to me to plan each week however I do not feel we have a good cycle going or obs, assess and plan. Are next steps essential? Thanks.

Hi, we have just started using tapestry and was wondering how other settings track the children's development. When we were all paper based, we added the monthly observations, linked them up to the EYFS, COEL, then used a 'tracking sheet' which clearly showed which specific statements in each area had not been achieved by the child yet. I have found the development tracker on each child's journey on tapestry but this only shows what age band they are currently in, in each area and subheading. it does not show the specific statements which they have not achieved. So how do we know what to focus on? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you Lily …

hi, we have just started to use tapestry at our nursery and would like to know how everybody carries out a long observation using tapestry? we use ipods and ipads to upload short picture observations onto children's journeys but are struggling to think of how we can put long observations to the journeys. as it would take very long and would be difficult to track children through the room as while typing onto an ipod. any suggestions of how you do this would be appreciated! thank you, Lily.

Has anyone heard anything about how your lea is going to expect this to be done? My lea have said nothing, but indicated it will be worked on in the summer. I presumed that as this has to be rolled out from Sept this year we might have had a concrete plan in place. Has anyone heard anything more concrete?
