Hello, I have recently bought into the Tapestry software and both staff and parents are finding it very beneficial. Before we used this we had learning journeys which are typed and then a paper tracker which was highlighted every term to show where the children were at and the progress they have made, this however is very time consuming. Now I use Tapestry I am really unsure how to track the children's progress using this software. ANY help with this would be much much appreciated. Thank you :1b

iPads for observations

Hi, we have just introduced Early Years Classroom monitor as a tool for tracking children's progress. As our next step we would like to use the software alongside either iPads or iPods in order to record observation notes and photos. We hope that this will save us precious time that we are using to endlessly print photos and write up obs. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of using iPads and iPods for this reason and which device they felt was more user friendly? Also if anyone has experience of using Early Years Classroom Monitor I would also value any feedback, hints or tips. Thank you in advance

New to Nursery

Hi, I've just been given the role of Nursery Teacher ( I was previously in Reception for 3 years). I will be working with two TAs and was looking for some tips. I've ordered 'Nursery in Action' but was wondering about organising the day. I keep starting a to do list but I don't know what to put on it! The previous teacher didn't have key workers but I would like to introduce them but again I'm not sure how to go about this? There will be 20 children in the AM and 20 children in the PM. Are there any courses you recommend us going on? I want to get the provision right and welcome any advice. Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

Hi, I thought I would share my thoughts with all you clever people about how our planning process is going and any issues that we have. For each term, I complete a medium term plan - this is mainly based on the children needs, with a couple of extras to ensure curriculum coverage. I am happy with this and feel that this ensures that we stick closely to what a cohort needs. I plan a focused activity for each area of the curriculum which we cover during small group time apart from 2 areas which are coverage through Objective Led Planning. This is the first year that we have used OLP and we have found it to be successful. We gives ourselves up to 2 weeks to meet the obje…

Hi all, I would like some ideas for group time activities that are more interactive and require more children's participation rather than just a story or singing in together. I know these involve children too but am after some other ideas, preferably ones that get then moving as our group time is usually after lunch so would like to avoid too much sitting. Many thanks

Quiet boy

Hi all, There is a preschool boy who I've observed to play on his own quite a lot . He will sit and join for group time but be very quiet. I often see him playing alone with small world figures in the home corner, with the doll house or with small cars around the room, indoors and outdoors. Is this something to be worried about? Will it be something that ofsted could ask about it if they notice it too? What could we do for him?

Hi there, I'm new to this site and have recently been promoted to manager at a lovely pack away preschool that I have been working at for 2 years. I am really keen to change the way we plan things at preschool. The previous way just made no sense to me and I don't want to plan for plannings sake! We had our Ofsted inspection and were graded 'Good' so whenever I hinted that I think we need to change things, the manager would always say 'it's good enough for Ofsted'. I believe the last manager lacked a real passion for childcare, I don't want everything we do to be for Ofsted! Anyway, I am not keen on Next Steps, we currently have rolling next steps but they are just picke…

Hi Everyone, This is our first year using Tapestry and we absolutely love it! However we have run into a bit of a rough patch at the end of term. Previously we used to meet with parents each term to update them on their child's progress using a paper based tracker in their learning journal. This was fairly quick to do, parents responded well to it and we identified concise next steps. This time around we used the Tapestry report function to provide a family with an individual report for their child. The reports are very thorough and provide a holistic view of the child's development. They are quite time consuming to produce though and meetings with parents hav…
