Ok, big thanks for ideas people gave me for my ICT observation the other week. Now I would love some ideas for my maths observation which is on Thursday! Didn't do very well in my last maths obs so need some great ideas that have worked really well! Topic is places and people. I'm starting with places and people around school then moving on to different cultures. Any great ideas? Thanks!

Hi everyone, I hope you can help. Our nursery has decided to start doing a topic web for how we cover all areas of the curriculum outdoors. Our theme this month is 'Fairytales' and I am at a loss about what to do - its hard enough sometimes thinking about what to do indoors I was thinking about encouraging the children to make houses for the 3 little pigs out of our big blocks and leaving out straw and sticks as well (Physical and Creative). I had also thought about leaving out dressing up clothes, playing 'whats the time Mr Wolf' (maths) but Im now getting a bit stuck. If any of you have any ideas I would be really grateful. Many thanks. G.

Daily Plans

What do you display for your parents on the activities covered for the day/week? Do you just display your weekly plans or do you have a different format for letting them know what happening that day/week? (apart from a newsletter) My old setting was visited by Ofsted last month and they were picked up on the fact that there was no information displayed for parents on the weekly plans, even though they do a comprehensive newsletter? My present setting does not display information on whats going on weekly/daily? Thank you Jenni

Adult Focussed Planning
by Guest- 6 replies

Is anyone willing to show examples of the forms they use for their adult focussed activities/lesson plans and the way in which they evaluate their activities? and are they hand written or typed onto computer? Currently we are a small staff team and find time spent out of the room to type lesson plans and then evaluate difficult. Also, as we are trying to respond to children's interests and plan accordingly I find the time to observe, respond to, plan, type, put into action and then evaluate before starting the cycle again using our current forms/system challenging to say the least. Thanks in advance for any responses. Sam

Wrap A Round

Hi All The Pre-school I will be managing provides wrap a round to the school nursery which is completely new to me. How do you plan and assess for these children or do you? I know its all learning through play buts its a long day. i will be planning for the younger children using birth to three so there will be workshop area, creative, music, sensory, heuristic, story tent, mark making, outside. Would you just allow the children to enjoy all the areas and the nursery to plan their learning journey? If so do you think parents will want to see written assessment etc?

Hi all, I have emailed Ofsed and asked them when we can start using the EYFS their reply was I can start now if I want to. As I will be managing a mixed aged setting I would like to start in September so we don't have to have two sets of planning. Is anyone else doing the same if so would you like to link up to share views?

Nursery Baseline
by Guest- 5 replies

hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me, I have recently moved to a new school and in September we have to complete a baseline for our nursery children. Does anybody have or know if there are a bank of activities matched to the stepping stones that we can use for baseline activities, for example what stepping stones playing with playdough might address, I would just like to know if there is a range of activities out there that address all of the stepping stones? This would then form our planning for the early weeks. If this doesn't sound right then can anyone help me out by suggesting ways of completing nursery baseline??

Will It Get Better?

I have just started working in a committee run pre-school after working in a private nursery pre school for 5 years. I am finding it really difficult adjusting to the changes. The committee members are all really nice people but they just don't seem to be bothered about anything we are doing with the children just homing in on things we are not doing. they hover around in preschool for too long just chatting to eachother , leaving their younger children to run about the hall upsetting all the activities laid out. I think they feel we are there to play play play, they haven't even looked or asked about planning etc. we are there to play with toys and nothing else. I do…
