Where Has It Gone?

Help - I know I've read it on here, but just spent 30mins looking for it! Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the article written by Sue Ridgeway titled Motivational Planning? It's not a recent post, and it's quite long. I just thought I'd re-read it - but can't find it. Sue - if you're out there - do you know where it is? It's the one about just changing your planning (last summer).

Observing Children
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi we currently observe the children throughout the course of the week trying to ensure they have one written observation per day they attend. Can I ask how other settings use these observations they collect effectively. If their is something of interest we use it to inform following weeks planning or if there is something they couldn't yet do we may provide support in doing this. Is this enough? what will Ofsted want to see them used for. Just wanted to check I am correct in using these? Thanks

Could Do With Some Advice
by Guest- 18 replies

Hi. I am working in a DN now and have been asked to work in the maths and literacy room. We are fortunate in that we have three rooms divided into all 6 areas of learning, although obviously some areas overlap, such as PSE. Anyway, I have noticed that the children dislike coming into my room (have been there 3 weeks now, although in the company for nearly 2 months) so I am following on from the NN that has now left. There is very much a 'work' emphasis in there and I believe this is why the children do not find it as fun and exciting as I would like. My main goal this month has been to observe each of the children and look at where they are at in terms of activiti…

We Have Decided To Take The Plunge!

was half way through posting then it dissappeared, if their is a half post, I apologise. Hey Everyone I thought I'd let you all know about our new planning system, after months of stress, staff worrying over not having time to plan, seeing the effects of this on the playroom and after gaining some inspiration via here, we have made the move away from forward planning. We are now trying to work as child centred as possible, letting the children lead their learning and merely providing for this and recording their progress. We have also re-started keyworker time to ensure that there is still some adult input where necessary and to help the staff deliver mor…

We have chosen the book 'Commotion in the Ocean' to look at sea animals. Has anyone used this book before and willing to share their planning I'm particularly interested in literacy ideas. Thanks in advance Tracy

Can Anyone Help

Hi all have just copied and added a few bits from my post yesterday in "just taken the plunge" . . . Have just been reading through all the previous posts regarding Child led planning, and after a meeting this afternoon with my 2 Supervisor colleagues, we feel there is something amiss with our planning - but we can't identify what! We are a sessional pre school, meeting in a church hall, staff are all part time and children attend different sessions. We have a great system in place for Continuous provision and don't think that needs altering. Our main area which we would like to develop is how to get 'what you know about your key children in your head' on to paper form…

"delivering" Post It Observations
by Guest Wolfie- 15 replies

What systems do people use to sort out all the "post it note" observations that they do each day and make sure that they get delivered to the right keyworker for inclusion in individual children's files? Do you have trays with the keyworker's name on and their list of children, do you have an A4 diary and put them all on the corresponding page for keyworkers to sort through themselves...or something different? What works best for you and your setting?
