Hi all, How can i support staff to understand whether next steps are developmentally appropriate for their children? some next steps i see are very vague and do not seem challenging enough for the older preschoolers. for example, is it enough to say "next step is to discuss/talk about how people help us" or "reading a story about people who help us". what would be a next step for a child who is observed writing their name? many thanks salus

Today we embarked on our first 'proper' outing to Tropical Wings Zoo with our Leavers , what a wonderful day with lots of memories made. We were fortunate to get transport via a local community bus and he also arranged an extra minibus to accommodate us all. 18 children and 9 staff made a great day out and we even had a family comment on how wonderfully behaved our children were compared to other school groups that were there. Think this is the start of some lovely trips out .

Hi, Please can someone tell me if observations on Tapestry are pulled through to PRAMS? If so, how does this work? If not, ???

Hi, Just seeking some advice on the use story-sacks in the setting. I have used a couple of these in the past but have always been worried about bits being lost etc. as they have taken a while to put together as well as money! and become a bit precious to us (I know they shouldn't but I hate losing things or finding things broken that we have ordered specially on a tight budget etc.) So... do you use them? Do you introduce them before letting the children 'loose' on them? Have you used parents to help collect resources to build them up? Have you found bags or boxes better? Sorry if these all sound like basic questions - I'm probably thinking about things too much! At t…

Hi there, Just wondering if anyone could advise and share. I work in a Nursery in a school and we are looking at what programme we can use to input and track data. The rest of the school uses SIMs but it is not appropriate for us. I have heard of other schools using e-profile. What does everyone else use and what do you recommend? Thank you!

hi all, im looking for examples of some good high quality observations and next steps and some not so good observations and next steps for toddlers/pre school age. Can you share some examples please, or is there something out there that i could use to show the difference in quality to share with colleagues? what should a good observation and next step entail? many thanks all Salus

Our children self register when they come in and it's free flow play til tidy up time (we are a packaway), so the formal register is done over their heads. But I would like to have a coming together time on the carpet where we say good morning and talk about the day ahead. I know Ofsted are not particularly happy with stopping children in their play to do register. Any thoughts?

Hi folks, I am thinking about some loose planning ideas for next week. The children have been interested in pirates so we have treasure maps, treasure hunts and a couple of books. Has any one got any exciting ideas for this set of interests. We have also made pirate map paper. Also as it is so hot I thought it might be fun to do an ice cream cafe and make ice cream. Have anyone of you wonderful practitioners discovered any exciting ideas to stretch this set of ideas. Thanks in advance.Brain very dead following completion of my dissertation so all help gratefully received.

I know planning has been done to death, but I'm not as interested in what/ how you do your planning (I'm always interested but that's not my focus!) but more when and who? Primarily how does this get in a PVI setting? How does it capture everything, who takes responsibility for it, and when in their schedule do they get to complete it? In my ideal world they whole team would get 30 mins to sit and plan together, however in a day that spans 8.00-6.00 with girls on shifts this is practically impossible. We're having a radical overhaul from September and have done so many different things that I'm starting to not see the wood from the trees! If you do want to include ex…

I personaly feel its a great time too have one too one with not only my kkeey children but the other children too. This week I had planned to do spiders sticking brown wool to make hairy then encourage counting with the 8 legs . The children always do it themselves so I just chat about. The topic we are doing.
