I am looking for some help really Where I work we have a number of children that have care orders etc and them and their parents are under the supervision of keyworkers and social services etc.. Basically the parents have additional needs not the children. Any way I am keyworker to a couple of the children and I have been told that 1 particualr child's social worker is coming in to observe and would like to see thier 'IPP'. Apparently all of these children are expected to have one??? I have B23 obs folder for the child etc which has all the observations etc. But I have never had reason to do an IPP for her. She is 2.2 years and through my observations, pla…

Planning, Again!

HI I thought i had an effective system in place, in actual fact it was effective but also very time consuming. i spoke with the early years advisor who said that for all children in nursery we do not need to do focused planned activities (as in planned out before hand with BT3 aims or FS aims (which is how we have been doing it) all we need to do is follow children's interest of notes from our observations. so the early years advisor identified that they would be 'planned' if you were following from observations, but they wouldn't be planned in the sense of linking back to BT3 and FS areas. now im okay with that, and so are my staff as it is less written work for t…

Hi everyone, I have spent the half term revamping the pre schools planning format, the old system they had in place is quite tired and they were pulled up on it by Ofsted. I have written a Long Term Plan, which basically shows the ELG we will focus on each month, although all of the goals will also be met within our continuos provision. I have listed all visits, events and celebrations. I have only put 1 to 2 ELG in each month to start with and will review it at the end of the year. I have written focus activity sheets, which sets out the possible learning outcomes from the various activities, how long should i run a focus activity for, initially i was thinkin…

Baseline Assessments
by Guest Wolfie- 1 reply

In our authority, all the LEA nurseries are given a basline assessment to complete for each child on entry to nursery -which is then used again as the child moves up to reception to assess progress - but there is nothing standard that is used by all the VIP settings. I'm not at all keen on "ticklist" assessments - can kick a ball, knows colours, etc. - but want to try and develop some kind of assessment across the six areas of learning for children as they enter the Foundation Stage. I've got forms that ask parents for all kinds of information about what their child likes playing with, etc.etc but am looking for something to be used by the nursery staff within the nu…

Introducing A Keyworker System
by Guest Wolfie- 16 replies

I want to introduce a keyworker system into a 2-5s room in a nursery where there is basically no effective teamwork, observations, assessments, record keeping, etc.etc. at present. I've got plenty of experience of working with these systems, have got policies, etc. but need some top tips on selling the idea to the staff in the first place! Annything that means extra work is likely to met with a "Kev n Perry" gesture if you know what I mean! Obviously this system HAS to be introduced but I want to make the road as non-rocky as possible!!!
