Assessment

Thanks very much for the replied below. I just wanted to ask aswell, I have adapted our assessment sheets so that they look like the Foundation stage Profile. We were recording direct on the the profile as we like the layout and easiness of it to read. While I was hunting a little while back I found all of the stuff normally on the matrix laid out in easy wording (we think the wording on the matrix is terrible we can hardly understand some of the language ourselves so asking a parent to read it is not really fair when most don't really have a good understanding of the FS anyway) I think it came from Devon or somewhere South West, but they didn't use the actual final st…

When free flow was introduced we were told to abolish our Long term plan and medium term plan and just to follow the childrens interests and plan fone day for the next day Do you do this and does it work? How do you ensure you cover the ELGS? Do you not plan to cover any? Do you watch the children and then plan for the activities that will be out for the next day? How can everyone be involved in planning if we are doing it the night before and it doesnt give us enough time to get resources? Does anone have a planning sheet example based on the childrens interests? We used to have a short term plan which was more of a toy rota and wa told not to even use …

Ofsted apparently rang today and spoke to our deputy to say they were coming on the 17th of November to look at planning??? They said it is not an inspection I was surprised when I was told this as I had not heard of that hapening before. So everyone has gone into a flap panicking about the planning etc, especially as ours is kind of going through an overhaul at the mo!!! Anybody had ofsted visit for something similar?

Focussed Activity Planning

I'm just posing this question out of interest, really. A colleague has just attended a course run by our Early Years advisory service. As part of it, she was shown a suggested planning sheet for a small group activity, which had the Stepping Stone the activity was aimed at right at the top. The leader then said that they suggested settings planned for each Stepping Stone twice a term. It's not the way we plan, & I felt sure I'd read on here that others plan to the Aspects and record children's achievements against the Stepping Stones. The kind of planning suggested sounds like a bit of a nightmare to me. I would have thought htere were some Stepping Stones y…

Record Of Achievement/f.s.p.
by Guest- 6 replies

hi can anybody tell me (nursery/preschools) whether you fill in the f.s.p alongside the recorded of achievement. I was led to believe that we did not touch it as it was only upon entering reception that this came into play. I also, perhaps naively thought that the f.s.p. followed on from the r.o.a. but i have now been told by an early years advisor that this is not the case. Also can anyone tell me how they use their r.o.a. Do you fill in a colour per term i.e yellow autumn, green spring etc and do you tend to fill most stepping stones in or do you mark them low. We have decided that we do not mark it off untill the children have be witnessed 3 times at l…

I would like to put together some info for staff to consider when writing their key childrens targets, not just assessment s they have made. I thought i could use some bullet points of what to consider when setting targets for children to work towards. Any thoughts? This is something that QA want to see keyworkers doing.

Please can people reply and let me know when your team get to do their planning, and for how long? Do they get non-contact time to do this? Also, do they get any other non-contact time? Thanks.

Can anyone help? I am looking for a simple craft activity to do with the topic of food. It is with a group of 7 children, 3/4 year olds (it will be the first session for one three year old) and 2 adults. We have done: fruit printing, fruit kebabs, animal masks (from Handa's Surprise), fruit tasting, fruit modelling in plasticine and on Wednesday we are going to make bread. (Using a bread mix!) I thought about using a paper plate and getting them to cut out and stick on pictures of their favourite foods but I'm not sure where to get the pictures from? Inspiration needed please!
