Hi Everyone, I'm attaching the weekly planning I did for this week, whilst I'm quite pleased with the layout and it has seemed to work well in my setting, I do wonder if it's a bit over the top! Should I just stick to picking out one Stepping Stone for each ELG and one focus from the BTTM? I haven't written in the resources or learning objectives as we fill in a focus activity form regularly on all activities where an adult has been present. My boss said it was fantastic but she's so lovely I'm not sure she doesn't to upset me with any criticism of my first attempt! So please feel free to give your views as we can only learn from our mistakes. Thanks Karrie …

Hello all We use the sticker (post it note) system for our observations on our children which are then filed into each child's development/achievement folder under each area of the foundation stage. The problem is we could do with a matrix or grid where the staff can highlight which aspect and stepping stone had been observed, so that the staff will begin to see gaps in the children's observation records and will then observe the children in those relevent areas. I hope this makes sense!!! if any one has anything like this that they would be willing to share with me i would be so grateful as i am going round in circles!!!!

Hi We have yet again had a different early years mentor who has now pulled our assessment sheets to bits can someone please share any forms you use? Also confirm the steps used for planning recording and assessing we have.. Developmental plan for each child/ bttm and fs we do observation on the children then these get filed in childs obs book and crossed reference to the developmental plans we have a seperate sheet which shows aspects of learning which we use for all the children and it shows us at a glance which level the children are at so we know what to plan for next. We dont have an individual sheet for the children showing their individual learning. Plea…

HI When i took over as manager i changed all the planning, the general concensus now at work is that the planning is quicker to do and that the staff now know a whole lot more about the children than they previously did. Our planning takes on three stages. we have a medium term plan (which is a brainstorm of our topic ideas, ie crafts, songs etc...) we then have a weekly plan which has a section for planned activity title, a section for children's choice of toys /activities and then a section for staff choice of toys and activities. on the reverse of this plan is a space to evaluate the whole week, staff use this to highlight things that went well, childr…

Hi all, We got the dreaded phone call today. OFSTED are coming next week on Wednesday and Thursday. Does anyone have the story of Goldilocks on Smart notebook and also any counting activities on the smartboard linked to Goldilocks. Please help. Also I just finished my NQT year successfully but have never been through the OFSTED process. I am a reception teacher in a foundation Unit. I have only nursery records and haven't really started observations yet. Is that OK? Any advice really appreciated. Thanks in advance. Flowerxxxxxxxxx

Hi we don't do long term planning is this wrong?, we do have a yearly overview of the topics we will cover but that's it. we don't have a medium term plan as such only a breakdown of craft activities / other activities we will cover via the topic. Our planning has moved to being very child inititated and as such is 'planned' for daily. ofsted have not seen our plans yet so i don't know if i am right or wrong in the way i am doing things. how do others do it? Supporting 2-3 Year Olds

Hi, I know this subject has been discussed at length on the forum and i have read through most of the up to date posts I could find, in an attempt to get to grips with the best way to provide (and record) for this age group in regards to what Ofsted requires, what Early Years Advisors advocate and what is actually going to support/help families and the development of their children. I'm still really confused. Am I right in thinking that what is actually required, considered best for the child differs from area to area, from Early Years Advisor to EYA, from Inspector to Inspector. Also Myths vs. fact, and habits vs. openminded/reflective. At the moment (p.d. nu…
