Hi Has anybody got any advice on how to deal with a child who keeps pushing the other children, we had so many incidents today. Just today he walked in the door pushed another child over to get to the table to put his name card in, he then went to the carpet and took a car of another child, when the child cryed he hit the other child, he then walked over to another child who had bought a toy in from home, snatched it off him and broke it, the other child screamed and kept on punching him in anger, the child who broke the toy hit him back and screamed. We then queued up and he pushed the child in front. This was all between 9.15 and 10.15am. we have tried everything, rewa…

Think I Have It Sorted

Planned_activity_BT_.docPlanned_activity_FS.docPlanned_activity_weekly.docHI Now if you had seen our planning we have been doing you would have laughed, it was all colour co-ordinated (looked more like a rainbow), told us nothing of the children's interests, did not allow for free choice on the part of the children and took ages to fill out. so i think i have managed to simplify it.... after reading through the FS guidance i now know that you don't have to do a medium term plan unless you wish to... so our medium term plan has now taken on the format of a brainstorm for craft/activity ideas.... (not attatched) and then our toy plan has changed slightly to now incl…

Stepping Stones Codes
by Guest- 5 replies

We are a brand new pre-school and my staff and I are new to the foundation stage curriculum and planning, so I would like to keep everything as simple as possible. I have numbered all the ELGs so I don't have to write them out all the time on the planning sheets. For example, PSED 1 and I would like to do the same for the stepping stones. It would make it so much easier to cross reference. So please how do I code the Stepping stones?

I have been asked for Peer observation booklet which I mentioned a while ago, my apologies to all who I haven't sent it to. It is rather longer than I thought, as it was a day long training supplement. However, I have adapted the info into a two sided A4 size, attached excel doc ( I print it off double sided). The columns on the right are to indicate the criteria that have been observed. I can change it to word if you haven't got excel. I shall also attach the format I use for 'formal' child observations (narrative) The columns on the right are to indicate the Aspects (within each area) observed within the observation. Holiday reading I do not recommend int…

Topic Planning Problem
by Guest- 6 replies

Any ideas? I work for a day nursery within the pre-school room. My problem is with the planning which is based on topics every month, the long term plan is set for the whole nursery and we as rooms have to individually plan the medium and short term plans based on these topics. My problem is I'm finding difficult to be able to plan for the individual child as so much time is taken up with the topic/theme leaving hardly any time for mini topics etc based on individual planning. I have tried to approach the manager about this but she loves her paperwork and her own way of planning! She wants it to flow through the nursery! I have said to her that all my re…

Question Re Planning
by Guest- 3 replies

HI all I am working in a nursery in cheshire, we at present follow the curriculum guidance for the foundation stage, using planning sheets from the cheshire years early years curriculum guidance. we use the stepping stones as guidance for planning... ie shows an interets in numbers and counting. or shows an awareness of the cultures and beliefs of others... we find these (the planning format) too fiddly, and time consuming.... we currently have to highlight in each area how it fits in with the foundation stage overall. so ie in physical area we could plan to do musical movement so we would then write 'musical and movement' and would have to colour code PD, CD,…

hi, whilst generally observing the children in our setting we have noted that boys in particular are put off painting/messy activities when they have to wear aprons. for example, today when we went into the garden lots of children ran straight to the fence where we had attached paper for spray painting. when told they must put on an apron first, all of the boys (except the very young ones) disappeared! my supervisor asked me to put it to the forum and see if this is common. we use the tie up at the back red and blue aprons. we are wondering if we should purchase some boy-friendly tabards? sandie

Plods And Foundation Stage Profilrs

Hello all I keep seeing people mentioning PLODS on here and i am a little unsure as to what these are? If there is any one that can enlighten me or have any examples of how they use them i would be exteremly grateful. Also when i was looking at different posts on here a while ago i found some examples of how people had taken the stepping stones of the foundation stage and made them into sort of profile sheets where you make a comment once the child has achieved each stepping stone. Each child had a set of these profiles. if any one has any examples of these of knows where i could find the post that would be great. many thanks mandy x

Teddy Bears

One of the staff at my Pre School has come up with the idea of 'teddy' bears for a theme, rather than just 'Bears'. Our themes usually last for the half term (approx 6 weeks) and I didn't want to dampen the positive input from the staff, but at the back of my mind I'm thinking - can we get a lot out of this theme over 6 weeks, or will we all be exhausted and never want to see another Teddy bear again? I suggested that it might be worthwhile thinking what the children would like? maybe a story we could focus on, or even 'famous' bears - to get to the point - has anyone been here before? If so I would be grateful of any suggestions to keep us enthused for 6 weeks of teddi…
