Hello there. I am currently writing a series of articles for this site about how the four Birth to Three matters Aspects (A Strong Child, A Skillful Communicator etc), and the learning goals at the Foundation Stage link together on a practical level in early years settings where there are children in both age ranges. What I would like to do is to get some examples together on how practitioners plan activities/organise the learning environment/deal with transitions through the age ranges with key workers/anything else you would like to tell me about that highlight the links between the two for the workers on the ground and the children, rather than just words in documents!…

I'm all in a tizz!!I have been asked to lookat the way we plan and to look at ways in which we can make life a little easier. I have the long term plan of which i am happy with but what i am hoping is that there may be some very kind people who could offer some suggestions as to how they plan, do you get input from children? how do you implement your childrens targets in your planning and what do you all include in your medium and short term planning. Also how do you implement Every child matters? Sorry if it sounds like i am asking a lot but its really starting to get me down. I have posted a similar topic but had no replies, at the time i felt very sad. I have also done…

Hi I was hoping that we wouldnt have to write end of nursery reports and that the FSP would be sufficient, however we have been taking the children to their new schools and nearly all of the schools have asked for a report from us as the FSPs are too lengthly and they dont have time to read them (all that hard work and they dont have time! not a appy bunny!) Does anyone have any examples/templates as I am rapidly running out of time. I only intend to make a comment for each area do you think that will be enough? I do agree perhaps the FSP doesnt provide enough basic knowledge on the child ie can do shoe laces go to the toilet unaided etc. I have 30 child…

Tracking Ss And Elgs

Hi, I know I have seen this somewhere - has anyone got a document which has the SS and ELGs going across the top, and a class list down the side, which is used for recording when children achieve the SS and ELG's. I don't mean the one with the profile points, but the one which covers all the SS. If anyone has a copy I would be SO grateful. Thanks very much Chris

Writing

On a recent visit from our local early years team, we were told to set the writing area up so the children had free and easy access to a variety of writing materials, including application forms, different paper, writing implements etc. We were told to scrap photocopiable sheets as activities (which I was more than happy to do) but now we're all struggling for activity ideas for the writing area and planning for 'free writing' isn't really enough! We're really looking for general writing activities, not necessarily connected to the theme, as I think we will struggle, regardless of the theme. This area has never been my strong point.. Give me creative any day! …

Planning Again! 1 2
by Guest- 30 replies

Hi! I'm still on my hunt for a suitable planning format but it's not really working! I don't know what I am supposed to be doing as I think our current set up is rubbish. I have literally been chucked in at the deep end. Half of our staff are only level 2 qualified or else are training to level 2 and they don't see why they should help with the planning. Added to that, we don't have such wonders as planning meetings! Nobody (except me) does any observations on the children so planning for their needs and interests just isn't happening. My manager is more concerned with keeping the paperwork pristine for when Ofsted finally turn up. Nothing matches or links in togethe…
