Assessment Info

Hi I was just wondering what assessment information you sent up with your children to school. At the moment we receive very little assessment information from our pre-school, they do not do anything towards the Foundation stage profile. Should they be doing so? I am meeting with the pre school manager next week as i really think we need to address this issue. What sorts of things do you send up assessment wise and what do you think works well and maybe not quite so well? Thank you Lola

Hello All Can anyone tell me how they record their child initiated activities. At the moment we have a box to tick on our activity planning sheets to show whether the activity is adult or child initiated but you don't really plan for child initiated activities. Should i create a new form to record evidence of child initiated activities that happen throughout a session? Confused???

Hello everyone I am new to this fantastic site and have been cathing up on all past threads and info. I found this site whilst researching into weekly planning formats. I work in a private day nursery and we have updated our long and medium term plans and our observing and ssessing of the children. As well as our observations we have introduced a book called Moving Children Forward for staff to write down any interests or learning needs of specific children. From observations and this book we want to produce weekly plans. our nursery is divided into three areas called Messy Quiet and Active Areas and we need to produce weekly plans to cover these ar…

Hi there what do people think about the (CAF) framework for assessment which every setting should be working towards by 2008? ive got to research it for college, it sounds great in principle as it is getting help early for children who need it and no more ringing aound various agencies for info. But ive hear mixed reports??? what are your thoughts on the matter or is it another short lived gov idea.

I am trying out a new format of planning sheet for the pre-school to incorporate both the FS and BTTM. Having read some different posts on here, have decided to try and use one sheet giving an activity, but how it links to both age groups. I would be grateful for any feedback! Thanks, Clare

Hi, I'm looking for some advice..... We currently have 2 small preschool rooms in our nursery and have decided to arrange the environment across both rooms in order to extend the space and learning areas available to the children. Does anyone work in this kind of environment and have any advice as to how it works in practice? Any ideas for encouraging the children to access both rooms? Thankyou Sandra xx.

Reading And Writing

Hi everyone, just wondered if you have problems with parents complaining about not hearing their children read everyday. I started teaching in Y1 in January and I am amazed at the misconceptions some of the parents have about our settings reading scheme (Ginn). They seem to think that as long as their child can read the vocab related to the level they are at, then they should continually be moved on to the next book. It is so frustrating when the children have no idea what the book is about but can bark out 30 words. I have explained to them that the children need wider reading experience and that the home readers are just a small part of the reading we do everyday…

Focus Activities

Hi. I was just wondering how others carry out focus activities? At present, our setting tries to do 3 focus activities per day, which we're finding a bit of a struggle as we are only open for 3 hours a day! I was wondering how many focus activities do others carry out per day/per week? I was thinking along the lines of one a day, making a total of 5 per week, but I'm not sure if it is enough. Thanks, Clare
