This might seem a bit cheeky so I apologise however I am in the process of trying to change and better the planning in my nursery for next year (I am an NQT this year) and want a list of all the stepping stones in a word format- Ive started to copy each one from the guidance but wondered before I continue if anyone already has this that I could pinch! Thanks for all the help!

Hi everyone After just completely gifts etc for Mothers Day, I began to wonder how I will deal with Fathers Day - in our group we have 2 children without Fathers. Last year this applied to one child, and he was happy to make a card for his Grandfather, but I was wondering what other settings do, becasue this year child is very sensitive about talking about his Dad, and I dont want to make things worse. Any thoughts?

How Does Play Support Learning?
by Guest- 6 replies

My best friend is in the middle of my GTP (Graduate Teacher Programme). She is specializing in teaching KS2 and has been given an essay question about the Foundation Stage. I have offer to help her with this question. But it has been such a long time since I have written an essay that I am alittle rusty. I need to think of all the key point and don't want to miss any. If any of you can think of any key points that must be included then please be kind enough to help. The question is: 'Discuss how play can support children's development and learning and how this may relate to the six areas of learning in the Foundation stage'. Thanks for your help!

All Year Nursery Provision

In another topic, Sue R reminded me that even though I am on holiday (Easter Break) She is still hard at work- Yes, my thoughts are with you Sue. Just out of curiosity, all who work in day nurseries, open all year round. Does your planning stay the same during "School Term" breaks? Do you continue to assess development? Is your planning more relaxed at these times? If yes, What difference does this make to the overall experience both educational & social for the children? If planning changes, What difference does this make for the staff? Look forward to your comments. Peggy

High Scope And Elgs/stepping Stones

This sort of links with the previous discussion about planning without topics/themes. It also has some overlap with the discussion about schemas. In High/Scope there's a greater emphasis on short term planning, with the lead coming from children's own interests most of the time. Just occasionally I get a bit nervous about covering all the Goals & Stepping Stones. You can identify a particular curriculum approach when OFSTED are due, & can request an inspector who knows something about it. High/Scope has its own assessment system, if that's the right terminology, called Key Experiences. Does anyone have experience of working with High/Scope, because I've seen littl…

Flower Shop

Hi everyone. I'm new to the Forum, and I just want to say that I think that it's brilliant. Everyone seems so helpful. At the minute I am looking for some help and ideas. I am trying to set up a Flower shop in my nursery, and so far I had thought of setting out real flowers and fake; having the children buy some and then using our junk art table to make some - as you can see I havent got much in the way of a creative mind, and although I have a couple of ideas I seem to be going nowhere with them!! Any ideas?? PS This is the first time I have posted a message so I hope I have done it right!!
