by Guest- 15 replies

I have set up a builder's yard in outdoor area. I have an outdoor sand pit, workbench, toy tools, tool boxes, hard hats, some clothing, large community bricks, office area (telephone, keyboard, mark-marking), an area with table and chairs, cups, teapot, newspapers, clipboards. Also have a few fiction and non-fiction books. Photographs of building sites, signs from building sites. The area appears a bit flat though, (after interest for first few days) most children choosing to ride trikes or climb large climbing frame. Any suggestions? The children are aged between 2 and 4. I am planning a visit to a local building site with the children to take photographs etc. I w…

At The Table

Have had some input into the set up of my classroom today from EY adviser, whose gut instinct seems to be to remove tables from my hard floor area. I have separate 'areas' (corners) for role play, construction etc. etc. already set up, and my 2.5 hr nursery session always includes at least an hour of completely free child-initiated learning. I never use my tables to teach the whole class handwriting!!!!!! However we do have some small group activities at the table, the children use them to set up small world play and we have snack at the table. Unfortunately, the adviser did not arrive in time to see the children using the classroom. Please give me your opinions - are tab…

How many settings have scrapped the use of using themes and topics. I am a great believer in doing activities that are purely child initiated. If it is raining lets get wellies on and play in the rain and not do painting just because our plans say so. If members do use this method how do you write it down as evidence and so called plans that ofsted want to see. thanks angela

Does anyone use a scheme of work for PE? At my last school the PE coordinator took each year group for PE. I have just started PE two weeks ago with my new Nursery group...so far we have been doing simple safety things, stopping when asked, changing direction and making interesting shapes with our bodies. Does anyone know where i can get ideas/plans/scheme from? thank you muchly.

Hi everyone. I hope you all had a good break and are enjoying the wonders of school again. This half term I am teaching 'Dance'. I am at a loss! Does anybody have any good ideas on a stimulus and lesson structure? The session lasts for around 30 mins. Thanks

I am an NQT starting my second post in Jan. I worked for one term in a Nursery and i am moving to another school, also in Nursery. My first school had 19 full time children, who were joined in the am by 7 part timers and in the pm by a different set of 8 part timers. My new school has a morning and afternoon session with all children attending part time. In my first school I had quite a few NN and assistants/students. For 28 children there was myself and two full time NNEB's plus one student. My planning was a shot in the dark. I would have: 9 - 9.15 for registration, weather etc. This was in 2 family groups with an activity e.g stickle bricks on carpet. Then 9.15…

I know that many of you have posted examples of long term, medium term and short term plans, but do you also write plans for each focused activity? It seems that paperwork for planning can be never-ending! Anita

We're doing 'Parties' next term. I've got some ideas out of a pretty good book but they're a bit flat. I'm in need of exciting activities, something to make me get out of bed on cold January mornings for. Thanks in advance to all your wonderful ideas
