Hi all, I'm obviously having an argumentative week!! Having asked you about worksheets, I'd now like to hear how other settings manage their observations! I was quite shocked to learn recently that some of our staff studying level 2 (CPP) are not taught how to observe, and therefore, understandably, are very uncomfortable about recording observations as they haven't been trained in the correct procedures. Apparently they're not trained until they study at level 3 (DPP) How does everyone else manage this, do all staff observe the children, or just those that have been trained? And does that then mean that only trained staff can be keyworkers?!

I have been to an early years conference today, and Have just attended a wonderful workshop hosted by cath Arnold from Pen Green, all about children's schemes. I can't wait to get back to pre school on Monday and put into practice all I learned today! She is such an inspiration.

Can anyone help? I'm in the middle of writing reports for my Nursery children. I have just finished writing about their personal, social and emotional development. I now have another box 'General Comments on Attainment and progress', which is quite similar, to complete. Does anyone know where I could get a bank of useful statements?

When you work out how to plan for your stepping stones do you have 'ongoing ' ones . We keep being told that we must have some that are ongoing . I would be very grateful to hear your opinions.

As a co-ordinator of a pre-school setting I was appalled at the lack of imagination being used in the outdoor provision in our establishement. Since I started I have contacted the local harbourmaster and aquired a derelict rowing boat, National tyres are only too glad to pass on their tyres (we have 2 tractor tyres we use as focus activity areas - lego, sticklebricks etc) and our loca; outdoor pursuit centre has let us borrow a whole selection of camping gear. We use our outdoor area all year. We have a grass area and a safety surfaced playground, which we utilise all year round (we have a box of wellies, macs and umbrellas) with bikes, scooters, balls, and space…

Planning For Nursery Areas-

Does anybody here do a sperate medium term plans for each of their areas- construction, small world, water and sand, book area etc to take in the changes to the area (depending on the topic) listing down activites, learning objectives(ELGs, SS) and evaluation after the 1/2 term? I would be interested in getting your views. Staff at my setting are reluctant to let got the table(seeing that as the place of legitimate learning) and everything else as play- that takes place after you have finished 'work'. I have tried various ways of moving them on to construction, small world and role play but they always slip back into the 'safe area' Any suggestions/ examples o…

Wasn't sure which part of the Forum to put this in as it is about the Foundation Stage and Birth to Three Matters !! Any way. In my new job I am trying to set up the planning from scratch. I oversee all of it and we have children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. I am in the process of setting up the pre-school planning and have been advised to make a kind of topic web for each of the areas in the nursery to show learning that is going on all the time. I have written some of the stepping stones the children might be achieving for each area. Fo example the Role play area, quiet area, mark making area, messy area, outdoor play area, etc, (each one has stepping stones, yellow, …

Am currently doing my BA HONS in Early Childhood Education. I am also a lone practitioner currently running a nursery, which caters for 13 children per session. The nursery is attached to a primary school. I am about to embark on writing my dissertation, which is on Assessment. I would be very interested to here from anyone who as a lone practitioner, how they deal with it, through their planning and if they have ever had any relevant training for this. thanks to anyone who can oblige Jennie T
