Hi I'm about to start a new job at a new school. The first week I start the whole school is having an Arts Week. I am the Nursery Teacher and the focus artist for the Nursery is Daniel Phill. Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about introducing this artist to the children. I have a video of him at work and I have left an email on his 'contact me' website. Each child has to produce a picture of a daffodil in the style of their featured artist. I'm looking forward to this topic as its right up my street, but just thought I'd ask you lovely people if you have any great ideas. I will bring in daffodils for the children to look at and discuss. We will do ou…

I am hoping that somebody will be able to help. Some time ago I downloaded (from fsf) a really useful document entitled 'Sector age related expectations' (I have attached a copy of this). Does anyone recognise this document and/or can point me to the original source? Many thanks! Sector Age related expectations for forum.doc

So a brief history, the first ten years of my working life at the pre-school I was assistant and had no say in planning so we had a culture of fluffy duck syndrome, WORKSHEETS!! a specific older children session, no outdoor play etc and basically no fun, im sure you can all imagine. SO when I then took over as leader things changed a bit, I have a wonderful team and we have worked together for a couple of years now, they are wonderful people and do wonderful and exciting activities with the children but there is one area where we seem to be at a little bit of logger heads. we follow the letter and sounds booklets and activities and do phonics, well a letter sound a week …

On-entry Data - advice needed

Congratulations to green hippo for her successful Ofsted inspection and thanks also for sharing her experience! :1b In view of the importance of on-entry data, I for one, am really concerned as I use my own 'baseline' assessment. After reading green hippo's post, I don't think that this will be adequate so would like to know what others do! We complete the initial assessment within the first 4 weeks of a child starting; it is a simple assessment, not necessarily using the wording in the DM statements e.g. PSED: I am happy to leave parent/carer, I talk confidently to adults and/or children, I am shy/quiet, I am confident in new situations, I am confident to expl…

Hi you came up trumps last time I needed inspiration so giving it another shot! We have an indoor area which to two sides are backs of low rise cabinets at there's a radiator cover to another side, wooden floor. We have a little tykes cube, small plastic bikes, bats, balls which we alternate but it's getting a but boring now and can just be basically become an area to run in circles. We have a large climbing structure which we pop out every so often but it requires full staffing support which is difficult on most days, we also do things such as music player, we did bear hunt with dens other week. Anybody got any ideas for things I don't mind buying things either but…

Hi, just wondering if anyone could help. I'm looking at changing/improving the weekly planning sheet so that the staff can put more input on what the children's interests are. Any help would be appropriated. Here is a blank planning sheet of what I do at the moment. Weekly Planning Sheet - Blank.docx

I need to rethink our planning formats and I need your advice and inspiration!! Currently we have two focus activities everyday, these are focussed on the childrens next steps. We then obviously have our continous provision for all other activities, play and picking up other next steps. I currently have copies of all the childrens next steps and plan a week in advance around these. I have hit a brick wall with planning(and everything else) and would like my two staff who are the key workers to be involved in planning for their own key children. They need to learn how to do this and I need to stop doing everything for them. So my questions are: How will this work co…
