Hi there, I'm just looking into how other nurseries are run. How do you allocate your children to key workers? At the nursery I work in each adult has a mix of ages and plans 1:1 activities with their key children. We are told to plan approx. 1 or 2 activities (based on the child's interest) a month with each of our key children (plus spontaneous observations as and when). Therefore, we do not have 'key person time.' The head of pre-school plans group activities for the pre-schoolers for their 'group teaching' and the head of toddlers plans group activities for the toddlers for their group teaching. These activities are not written down as observations as a lot o…

Hello Does everyone have a simple form that they use to pass onto parents about their child's first day at preschool. Ours is so dated and I would love to hear what others use. Thanking you in anticipation Sally

I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of how they use their journals to show children's progress. We currently use a check list which highlighted but this is lengthy and time consuming.

I have posted about this child in inclusion when we thought he had glue ear and how it could affect his behaviour but he has now been to see an ENT surgeon who has categorically confirmed that he does not have it. His behaviour is getting to a stage that I can't guarantee the safety of my other children and staff (he has hurt a member of staff twice this week) and I don't really know how to handle this. The Inclusion department have asked us to fill in the ABC form but I have been doing this for a week but can't see any antecedents to the behaviour. I actually have stopped filling in the form as it is not big enough!! We do have some good moments but they are actually f…

Planning and timetables

Hello! New on here so apologies if there is already a thread! I recently started working in Nursery, attached to a school and I am really struggling with timetabling and planning. My background is KS1, and prior to that private full day nurseries. Prior to me starting, the nursery has had a high turnover of teachers and it was very adult led and lots of stopping and starting. I have tried to move to more free flow and focusing on my provision but now feel I dont do enough adult led, and weather they should be in ability or key work groups when I do. The staff are extremely stuck in their ways and are resisting change strongly, which isn't helping! I think I have reac…

A parent has passed on a big bag of polystyrene spheres and cones for us to use. But I'm not sure if we can, because of the issue of swallowing and not showing on Xray or is that a myth? They are sold on lots of craft websites and ideas for using them on Pinterest but not sure what to do? Help please

i have started to bring a post-it observation or piece of mark-making/writing to each of our planning meetings to assess against statements, as this is an area of weakness for both my early years educators, especially one. we agreed on most, but have one query. a girl pointed to her top and said "this says dance, dance, dance" (it did!). i feel it demonstrates bold parts Ascribes meanings to marks that they see in different places Shows interest in illustrations and print in books and print in the environment Knows that print carries meaning and, in English, is read from left to right and top to bottom one staff member felt it demonstrates Knows information can be…
