Today a little boy said "Mrs L, will you play noughts and crosses with me?" I did and he won - fairly and squarely. I have kept the game (he drew the lines and marked his 'X' before I had even sat down) and will put it in his LJ - but am not sure how to assess this (we have played the game before, outdoors on the chalkboards) - is this M: SSM? Any thoughts? And another 'problem'! Same little boy, 'conducting' a survey to find out what size shoes his friends have. One shoe had a number on the tongue, a number on the inside sole and a number on the bottom. I pointed this out and said "Three numbers!" "No" said the little boy, pointing at the other shoe - "Six, bec…

Does anyone have any good ideas for activities to support - 'Shows interest in shapes in the environment'? We are currently looking at 'light and dark' and next week I will introduce the idea of 'shadow'. Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi, As part of our planning we fill out a responsive planning sheet which basically records any significant obs where we have supported and extended learning and if appropriate, further responses e.g. Enhancements, Change on provision etc. However, I am struggling to get my 2 Ta's to fill it in and I have to ask them what they've been involved in and do they need to do anything else. I feel this is a useful record but not sure how to make it simpler or just get rid of it which I don't really want to do. What do you do? Do you record this type of information? Thanks, Green Hippo x

Hi, we have interviewed for some new staff and luckily have two new staff members! however, we are about to send out for references for these two people and i have been told today that reference letters need to be very short and not ask too many questions - does anyone have a reference letter / form i could have a look at as a starting point please?

Mind block any ideas.... We are looking at introducing letter of the week in line with our current phonics (3 & 4 area) however I would like to also reflect this somewhat in our integrated 2's area. Just so it's more of a whole setting thing but tailor it to the needs of the two areas - any ideas welcome. Thanks

Hi everyone! In our setting we are all in one big room together, currently we have all of the activities for the day out, for all children to access, as we are now taking two year olds I feel the things we used to do aren't quite working anymore - what do you do? Do you have group time? Seperate activities for different abilities?

HI We have started using Tapestry in September this year. As a pre-school some of our children started with us at Easter time. We would like to add these children's assessments onto Tapestry so that we have a full picture of their time with us. Would be grateful if you could advise us how to add these assessments with the date they were originally done rather than the date when we are adding them to Tapestry. Many Thanks Sue
