Hello everyone I was wondering how long do you wait to complete a 2 year check? I work in a pre-school and new 2 year olds started in september, how long do you observe and get to know your children before you do their 2 year check summary? I have 2 written observations in learning journey of a new key child and the child has been to pre-school 3 times (3 hour sessions ) and my manager said I need to do the 2 year check now. Any advice /comments please!

I am looking for some inspiration for a plenary. The objectives are to use some number names accurately in play count up to 3 or 4 objects saying one number name for each item, and count up to 6 objects from a larger group The children will be using/eating 'fish' snack biscuits during the activity. Any thoughts would be welcome. :1b

Hello I just wondered if and how you share your next steps with parents? Do you write a plan for each child?

Focus Activities Help!

Hi all was just wondering if anyone could share any ideas on focus activities. At our pack away 3 hour session setting all planning was just focused on individual children however we had Ofsted in Jan and the inspector was quite insistent on us doing set focus activities. (even though from how we planned we could show how, why and next steps to childrens development and that they were all meeting their goals.) So how do you plan for your focus activities? How often do you do them? What makes you decide on doing that certain activity? (E.g, I find it hard to understand why choosing 'random' sit down activity just to get an observation from is necessary when our pla…

on a continuous provision weekly planner with rows for all learning zones (eg sand, water, home corner) and columns for days do / would you pre-plan to change / add something for every box (i.e ever area changing every day) as well as doing separate more detailed plan for focus areas? this is what ive been told to do as 'good practice'? Just wondering what others do.

Does anyone have any ideas for activities / provision to encourage sharing and turn-taking for 3 and 4 year olds? Several of our children need to develop their skills in this area but we're a bit stumped for ideas other than playing boxed games (which they love but we've done lots of it!) Thanks in advance! :1b

Hi everyone, I have a couple of children whose next step needs to be not to keep touching/poking etc other children as they don't like it! Previously for similar next steps I have used 'to become more aware of how their actions effect other's' however I have had parents miss understand this in the past and get a bit upset about it thinking that their child is a bully! Does anyone have any other way of wording this? Thanks Green Hippo x

extreme disruptive behaviour

Myself and my staff are at our wits end at the moment, we have a child who has become very disruptive in nursery and at home. He's a big 4 year old who yesterday trashed the whole room by tipping toys out throwing chairs, hitting staff, he pushes children who are in his way. It is very draining as he so strong and we are struggling to control him. He is the same at home, and mum is very negative towards him, we are waiting to see if we can get funding for one to one support, it doesn't help that he is at nursery 8-6. Any advice or strategies would be much appreciated?

Hi, Currently, I do an overview of what the children will be 'covering' over the next half term but this is very general and always states that we follow the children's particular interests. I sometimes ask for the parents' help with what we are doing in school e.g. providing a photo but don't do this on a weekly basis. Parents also have constant access the Tapestry so they are up to date with some of the things that their child has done in school. I don't want to make loads more work for myself but was wondering if anyone else has an (easyish) way of communicating what we have been doing in school and possibly something that they could do to support this? Or do you th…
