Showed my older children a great little science trick today to show why washing hands is important , we always discuss dirt and germs but being able to show them the process of what happens to the germs when we wash our hands was great. One bowl of water , sprinkled on cinnamon ( had no pepper) , dipped finger into soap and the into bowl of water and cinnamon ( germs ) dispersed! The children loved it ,

Hi everyone I currently work in a pack away setting based in a church hall. The church hall has over the 6 weeks holidays been completely repainted and the church do not want us to put up any displays at all. This makes me really sad as I love displays and doing them with the children. We're thinking about doing posters which can be taken down at the end of each session with childrens work on and photographs etc. Does anyone else have any other ideas to how we can show childrens work without using displays? We're thinking about doing some eyfs folders, one for each area of the EYFS including everything to do with it and childrens work, example activities, photographs…

Hi, Can anyone out there help - I have a number of 2 year olds in my setting with EAL and I desperately need some ideas for books to use with these children. What I need is ones with very very simple story lines that I can use with puppets or other visual aids - does anyone have any favourites that work well? Also does anyone have any tools for language support / development they can reccommend for children with EAL. We are using signs, symbols and visual timetables but would welcome any other suggestions. Thanks

Last year each child had their own individual display square, where they could choose what to put up on it. It started great, pictures, photos, paintings and record of things said. But because we had such a large group on roll, I struggled to keep it up to date and relevant. I have now gone back to a large plain backed board for creative works and have designated another board for the season. This leaves me with one board and I am not sure where to go with it. I used to put lots of photos up, but am now putting these on the website to cut printing costs. I do not want to make display boards another onerous task for myself!! Was thinking of having a display ba…

Hi, I realise there is a whole tapestry section and have been investigating it as a new means of doing LJ's. However I am torn as to whether to move away from paper book style we currently use. My concerns are that parents have said they like having the scrapbook style as a memento of their time at Preschool and tapestry being online is not quite the same. Also we know from our facebook page that not all parents are online or have a computer/tablet as many request paper copies of their newsletters etc. Just curious what others experiences or opinions are about traditional vs Tapestry?

Hi all, would you mind telling me whether, in your paper learning journeys, do you separate them into areas of learning? Thanks

We have just started using tapestry and we are super pleased with the results. We are still getting our heads around the analysis tools and just what this can do. Currently we are using the 'snapshots/ baseline assessment' tool every six months to identify what level children are working at. Before we had tapestry we used the local authority tracker sheets and we would use a different colour pen each time we put information on (every six months) so we could clearly see the progress that children made. I am just wondering if there is any way of doing something similar on tapestry - perhaps on a graph with a different colour line each time it is done??? Hope that makes sen…
