Hi! Each day after a long session of CI play we have a small group time where we normally split into our 3 key groups and do a group activity - might be exploring something new, direct teaching of a specific skill, circle time type activity etc. We always rotate around 3 different activities, then on the 2 other days we do something similar e.g. PSE - something that doesn't require 3 lots of resources. This system has worked well for a number of years with our mixed ability key groups. On occasion we will split them by ability but not very often. However, one of my TAs has asked me today if we are going to continue with the mixed ability grouping as she feels she's not d…

Hi all Think I might answer my own question here but...... I have a child that has joined us this term who went to another nursery previously. We asked mum for a copy of the learning journey like you do and a copy of the two year check. Mum showed us the only thing she had been given which was two sheets of paper with all seven areas between the sheets and a comment in each bit, and some of it is graded some not. No Characteristics of learning or next steps and mum hadn't been given a copy at the time even though it was done in April, although she has one now. Nothing more! No learning journey and no assessment after April. Would you class this as a two year check…

Hello, does anyone know the lyrics for the song 'I am special' ? It goes something like ... I am special, You are special, Clap if you agree. I am special, You are special, ??????????? There are other verses too; I would love to use this song for my topic this half-term and would really appreciate it if anyone can provide the lyrics. Thank you!

Do you make links or reference to the Characteristics on your written plans? At the moment, we have plenty of reference to them in obs and assessments but nothing on our planning. Just wondered what others do...

Characteristics of learning

Hi All, Loving this forum, great ideas on all aspects of learning. I would just like to ask how are settings recording the characteristics of learning of each child? We are always trying to find effective ways of recording progress of our children and find there is still so much paperwork to fill in. We are a pack away setting and doing anything on line is not possible for us, so a paper format is the only way for us. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi everyone just wanted a few ideas of how you display your names of your key children and their key person for example having flowers with the key persons photo in the middle and the petals around the edges are their key children's photos/names. Any ideas would be really helpful !

Hi all We are desperate for some new IT equipment. Essentially by the end of last term our laptop, bee bot, microphone.... they had all gone wrong. I also feel in this technological age keeping up with what children are doing at home can be a challenge, lets be honest most children have far more technology experiences available to them than the laptop could ever provide (especially seen as we have no internet connection) So can I ask what IT equipment would you recommend or would not want to be without? and also does anybody know of any funding available to help restock?
