Hi all I have revamped the way we work and although after working in this area for so long I feel I should know all this I feel like we are starting again in some ways. I wondered if anyone would be willing to share their thoughts on what they do or comment on what we are doing. Firstly I inherited some planning aspects and one was that the continuous provision is always itemised out on the planning along with the bits that you have changed or 'planned' so to speak. Recently when I caught myself doing this again I wondered why I am doing it? we all know the items or resources that come out every day so why do I keep logging them. It makes the bits you are changing or a…

Hi I'm working as a nursery teacher attached to a primary school. I have recently taken over the class and have so far been carrying on with most things as they were. One of the main things I'm not happy with is P.E. I my last school even the reception children didn't do formal P.E. and I have to say I'm not fully comfortable with my nursery class doing it. I find it a very difficult session to manage as some of the children are barely three and the acoustics in the hall make it very difficult to make myself heard. I believe that they can definately meet the Physical Development goals through opportunities provided in my classroom and outdoor environment, but was wonderi…

could anyone recommend any good sites or books about two year olds. With more twos entering our setting I am concerned about what we are providing, the expectations of staff for two year olds and the routine of the day. Could anyone recommend any websites or books I could read, or recommend/share any thing from their setting. The twos room is relatively new and I worry that as our inspection is due we need to look at what we are providing and how we are supporting them. Thanks in advance

How and where do you record children's next steps? In a book, on a board, in a folder, on Tapestry...? How do you use what you have written? I am tweaking our planning (AGAIN!) and this is a bit of a stumbling block Help!

I have bought the book and looked at the free planning on line, but can't understand how to put it together. When you look on the planning on Nursery Term 1, is each table there equivalent to one weeks worth of planning????? Helllllllppppppp!!!

Hi all We are finding it really tricky to plan for the children's interests. Over the past year we have changed our planning methods a lot. We even tried focusing on 5 children's interests per week but that didn't work. The problem we have got is that their interests have not changed! Girls are babies, princesses and animals and the boys are obsessed with any type of transport, dinosaurs and monsters! Also, our little ones who have just turned 2, have not shown any particular interests, they just enjoy what the others are doing. I am thinking that because we only have 10 children on roll, that's why we haven't got a wide range of interests? We are thinking of changing…

Having had an observation of the characteristics of effective learning by a county adviser done lately, she suggests to use mind maps with my eyfs children, my question is how? Has anyone else tried, I would be very interested in ideas? (the oldest I have is my own daughter of 2 1/2, then I have three 2 year olds and a 11 month old.)
