Does anyone plan for a half-termly focus on aspects of learning when drawing up their long-term plan? I feel it would be useful to ensure curriculum coverage - would anyone be willing to share? x

Hi, I wondered if anyone has a set form they use to assess the children on entry point. We give each parent a unique child booklet to fill in, which tells us lots of information re health and development. We then just use the next couple of weeks as they settle in to observe and make notes on them . Does anyone use a more formal approach? I am reading that we should be formally assessing like reception classes too. Lisa xx

Talk for writing in Nursery.

Hi everyone, this is my first post on here, hoping someone may be able to help! We will be using Pie Corbett's Talk for Writing throughout our school starting in September. The school has been using it to a degree but not so much in Nursery. We have to choose what texts we would like to use throughout the year so I was wondering if anyone has had particular success using a text with the talk for writing technique? Any suggestions gratefully received!

We normally take part in national book week in the first week of October. I have googled it but can't seem to find any details about it being on this year. Does anyone know??? Also I think last year some nice person on here compiled a list of significant dates during the coming academic year. Did I dream that?

I was just wondering if anyone would mind sharing their planning for Phonics? At the moment we take an aspect and area each week so it might be Aspect 1 environmental sounds. We then plan something for each day linked to this and as far as possible to the book/ theme or whatever we are doing that week. For one reason or another it just doesn't seem to be working! So I am curious to know how else everyone manages it. The actual sessions are fine and the children love it and get a lot out of it, it's the actual documentation that seems to be sending us round in circles!! Any suggestions greatly received :-)

I am going to be teaching in our school's pre-school in September and have noticed toys such as Barbie and My Little Ponys. Do other settings have these? Thanks.

Having had an observation of the characteristics of effective learning by a county adviser done lately, she suggests to use mind maps with my eyfs children, my question is how? Has anyone else tried, I would be very interested in ideas? (the oldest I have is my own daughter of 2 1/2, then I have three 2 year olds and a 11 month old.)

I'm in a quandry!! Trying to implement an effective tracking tool for the children's progress. I have PRAMS and Tapestry but we've gone back to old paper journeys for the older children to hammer home to practitioners the DM's. I used kent's system which I quite liked, however I was curious to how other people do it?
