Planning for 2-4 year olds

Hi there, I currently teach reception and am soon to be moving to a private nursery role. I have been asked to formulate a new planning format ready for September but without seeing what is already in use this is proving quite tricky. I am worried that as a teacher of a large reception unit I am over complicating the planning and making it too detailed and not allowing enough flexibility in terms of responding to children's interests on an immediate basis. I just wanted to know how you guys plan for your 2-4 year olds, how many adult led activities do you do per week etc? Does each key worker have their own plan for their children or is it done per room? We are quite a…

I am in the process of revising our learning journals which are based on the development matters statements. I would like to know - are there any bits that you clever people think are missing from ANY area of learning, and, which age group you think they should go in For example stands independently would go in 8-20 months Thanks in anticipation of help

Hello all, I'm looking for some ideas for cooking/baking activities that i could do with the preschoolers that would tie in with our Summer theme for this term. I have thought of making fruit kebabs on skewers but need more ideas. Thank you in advance!

Hi All We have some money to spend and after evaluating our setting and the children's progress etc. we have decided we need to include lots of activities/resources in relation to different cultures, parts of the world. Our children's trackers, highlight that they are not achieving as well as they should be in the area 'Understanding the world'. We also have very little in terms of multicultural resources. We have lots of children interested in animals, so we thought that could lead onto talking about different parts of the world, and where different animals live? We are a pre-school with children aged 2-4yrs all of which are white British children. We are due OFSTED…

Hi all, This weekend's dilemma!: I have 4 children in my class who struggle with holding and controlling a pencil. They don't know how to hold it - they pick a pencil up with different hands, experiment with different ways of holding it - from palmer grasp to digital to a very weak looking modified tripod grip. They also often use the pencil with their wrists and rest of their hand off the paper. I have done copious amounts of fine motor practise (i.e. not using pencils!) with them, provided different widths and lengths of mark-making tools and all the children do finger gym as well - differentiated for their group. Going into reception, rightly or wrongly, I know thes…

Sitting here writing development summaries... Two of our three year olds who are going to school in September made progress in PSED and CLD related to social skills (playing with others, taking initiative, expressing ideas, speaking up, taking turns) in the spring term that we don't see this term, possibly due to insecurities related to school. So we can't say that they can do these things. The result of our support and encouragement gone...
