Each keyperson has a plan which shows the focus children for the week and possible activities the KP will do to met next steps/interests We then transfer these activities onto a Monday to Friday plan (to show when these activities will be done) Also on the plan the staff are adding something to each area each day ie a next step might be mark making so they may add gloop to the malleable tray (which all children can join in) , another maybe throwing and catching so we might play with balls/bean bags in the garden There is Continuous Provision set up In addition to this Also the staff are planning an indoor and an outdoor activity (would they need to do this as sure…

Hi all Just after advice, information as I have a meeting soon and want to make sure I have my facts straight. I am manager at a Pre-school with 12 key children of my own...quite a few children come one morning per week so its mad trying to do observations on those when it seems they all come in on the same day! There is myself and my deputy only as max of 13 chidren per day. We do photo scrapbooks, post it obs, struggling to do anymore different types of ob as well as run the setting ie toileting etc etc (at registration OFSTED said she would want to see diff obs). Great for sharing scrapbooks with parents but take lots of time, I dont think they are a requirement and…

We had a network meeting today about LJs. Although these are for the end of Recpetion, our Advisor thought they 'd be useful for us to see. I really likes the simplicity of them, ours are horrendous! https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/eyfs-profile-exemplication-materials

We are planning on re-surfacing part of our outdoor play area -we have an 'L' shaped area, and are primarily doing the short bit on the 'L' !! -we are going to look at the rest of it in time when funds allow. Our current surface is slightly sloping tarmac, a bit patchy and quite uneven. we are looking at the wet pour type surface, has anyone got any advice, experience , recommendations etc ? Many thanks !

Hi, I think this may have been discussed before but I was wondering if anyone followed the ABC objective-led planning model? At the moment, this is what we do but with individual targets for individual children. Of course, there are often children with similar targets I have been weighing up whether or not to try having 3 areas of learning each week that we focus on during the CI session - each adult having a different area to focus on with differing needs outlined. I'm a bit worried about loosing the complete individualised targets and was then wondering whether to have 2 areas of learning to focus on with all the children plus each child would have 1 individual one?…

Can I just ask how do you interpret the following DM statement in 30-50mths Writing? "sometimes gives meaning to marks as they draw and paint" Do you think this means if they make marks and say that's my name or that says mummy etc so giving meaning of print/words or do you think it means a more general draws a circle/mark and says that's a picture of my mummy? I think the later is EAD, beginning to create a representation of something and that the giving meaning that comes under writing should be only relate to printed words albeit squiggles at this stage. Appreciate your thoughts

Hi, We are looking into electronic learning journals and wondered if any Nursery Schools currently use them ? In particular Tapestry. We would be grateful for any advice with regards to how easy it is to install and use, whether it is worth the money etc. Many thanks.

Hi everybody, as it's nearly the end of the year and profiles need to be completed also in nursery we're doing some last-minute observations in areas we're unsure about the children's skills. It's the 'Literacy - Reading' area of the Development Matters that we find the trickiest to observe/assess. For 'Enjoys rhyming and rhythmic activities. +Recognises rhythm in spoken words.' we thought if they can do the following, we'd highlight these two statements for them: * they liked singing nursery rhymes, can sing a few, and say the missing word at the end of a line if the teacher omitted. *copy rhythms we make up using body percussions *clap out syllables in their names…

I have an interview next week for a job, and have been asked to take to the interview some planning, around the theme of Summer for a group of 3 year olds, including learning outcomes and assessment methods. I'd be really grateful for some honest opinions about the plans that I have started to put together. Many thanks in advance, Melissa. Inside Planning - for Interview.docx
