Learning Stories

Hi all. I'm hoping to get a little bit of advice. After taking part in EY Talking on Twitter a couple of months ago, I saw the subject of Learning Stories as a form of observation brought up and the idea of using them in my setting piqued my interests. Someone offered to send me a template for how they use them, but I haven't received anything, so I'm hoping that people can advise me as to how they write them and the layouts they use as right now, I'm flying a little blind other than knowing its a first person narrative with pictures used to support. Thanks!

STEP-BY-STEP STORY STONES

I am looking for inspiration for using story stones and want to 'steal' the best story stone ideas! I'm obviously looking in the wrong place because I can't seem to find very much on Pinterest :huh: Can anyone help? Also, I'm not very good at using my imagination, so any help or suggestions about the best tried and tested ways to use the story stones would be SO useful!

using more natural resources

Hi, we have been advised to use more natural resources in our preschool and toddler room, we curently only have a heuristic box in our toddler room and nothing in preschool. We are going to build our small world with a lot more natural resources like stones,longs etc What would you suggest we add in both of the rooms? I am particularly struggling with the toddlers as my room has children between the ages of 10 months - 2 and a half. Any help would be much appreciated!

Age related expectations

My head wants a termly assessment of children working within/above age relate expectations and those below. How do you do this as children can be different for different areas of learning. Is it just mean to be a general gut feel thing? I looked at my baseline data, if anyone had 2 or more areas at Dev 22-36m or below I'd say they below age related. If at the 'expected' secure 22-36/emerging 30-50m or above in all but one area then I'd say they were at age related. Pls help.

Rules and Boundaries

Hi, I don't post very often, but I am racking my brain trying to think of some group activities that could support children with rules and boundaries and managing their emotions. Has anyone got any ideas that they could share? Thankyou in advance.

Hi I am learning as I go about early years as previously I've been key stage one/two teacher. Can you help me with what a maths plan should consist of please? We will be covering the topic weights and our story of the term will be the hungry caterpillar. At the moment my maths planning is working but would like some reassurance...

Could anyone help me find an assessment sheet that shows progress of the children in foundation 2 please? I have been shown one but just can't find it. It used a colour key to represent data from term to term.

Dough gym

Can anyone suggest suitable music for use when doing dough gym? I am not 'into' pop music so haven't got a clue which music would be good, bad or indifferent! Clearly it needs to have a 'beat'. I found some music that I really like on youtube (link below) and guess that it is called 'Keep on Moving' - but I have no idea who the singer/band is. Please can anyone help to identify this or suggest other music? Many thanks! Apologies if I am not allowed to post this link and, if so, I hope that someone will be along soon to remove it!

Do you think we should be teaching children to read within nursery? If so how should we do this? Would love to know what people think on this.
