Hi, I have a little girl in my class who LOVES the home-corner and anything to do with domestic play/babies etc. We have changed our café into a baby clinic this week which has been a great hit and lots of great play going on. This particular little girl's target is 'to begin to talk about things that she has observed' and I am raking my brains to find something that might interest her that will get her talking as she can be very vocal with her peers around the role-play area but can be less confident around adults or if she is unsure about things. Any ideas? She also like Princesses. I need some FSF magic! Love Green Hippo x

Do you have sand and water inside and out? We moved both of ours outside last year but it's been suggested we need it inside as well at all times, in both nursery and reception, so would love to know what everyone else does? I can't see that it's a requirement of the EYFS and we freeflow in nursery so it's available during those times.

Hi, I'm just wondering what other settings do with regard to keeping a copy of two year old checks carried out. We currently do 2 copies, 1 for the parents and 1 for our records but I'm not sure where is the best place to keep our record. Do you put them in children's learning journeys or do you keep a file of 2 year old checks all together ? Appreciate your thoughts

Is anyone able to articulate better than me (I'm so tired!) or point me in the link of any great articles I can use to educate my staff on children's play. The problem is that fine line of opinion between allowing the children to trash the joint or stifling their creativity. This morning we had children moving sand around outside in a wheelbarrow. Unfortunately it fell over and all went over the floor. The children did start jumping up and down all over it, and which point I then did intervene and invite them to look in the sandpit, whereby one pointed out that there was not much sand left in it. I said yes and that some children would be sad because of this, and co…

Hello Guys I have an interview at a setting and I'm really stuck for ideas. I have to read aStory and then plan from that for the indoors and outdoors. I was thinking about 3 little pigs, where the children can design their own pigs As puppets. But I'm stuck on planning for other areas. I think I will read the story outdoors, (weather permitting) as that will cover planning for the outdoors, but I don't know what else to do. The age of the children are 2-4 years olds.. Please help, the interview is next Tuesday Thanks in advance

Do any of you have any magical tips for getting staff to write 'quality' observations? Ofsted have picked up on one member of staff's learning journeys twice now and this time I am going to get a recommendation or action... just waiting for the report. During the last year I have offered lots of support, training etc, but she just isn't improving. As I pointed out to Ofsted, it was only one member and all the others were really strong, but her response was to get an Outstanding it says ALL practitioners....... Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, I'm finding at the moment that we are a bit lacking in the UW observation department. I think that this time of year the children seem to be less interested in things that are (not!) growing - although there a loads of interesting seed heads etc in the garden if we point them out to the children. We have done some ice exploration and I have some winter plants on the exploration table but I'm lacking inspiration. I'm trying to think of little enhancements that I could add to areas that really encourages children to observe and talk about things. Thinking of having some fish for next half term but am just lacking thinking power at the moment. Any ideas - I know …

Hi, a practitioner at our setting is adament we need to write seperate significant comments for each child in each of the seven areas, she thinks this was mentioned at a recent training event. I dont see the point as these comments are already written as part of the observation, does anyone else do this? (write significant comments seperately)

ICT - Ideas Needed!

I will soon be having my performance management observation and, as always, will be expected to have an element of ICT to get even a 'good' outcome. My observation will be with a small group of children who will be describing an object - that's about as far as I have got at the moment! Can anyone help with suggestions for ICT? I wondered if there is anything that might link to my obs in some way - perhaps a downloadable game (?). Thank you. :1b
