HI all! We have recently started out 'Dungeons and Dragons' topic - which is already going brilliantly! Unfortunately, we just don't have the budget for a trip to a castle but I read on here that someone has hired a large foam castle for the children to build, explore, knock down (!) - I would love to give our children the opp to do this. Does anyone know about this? Know where I might be able to hire one? Have any other similar activities that they have carried out with children??? Any advice very welcome and appreciated! Thank you x

Hi I am new on here and so hoping I am ok by starting a new post. I am a manager of an After School Club, we only open for 3 hours a day but obviously still have to follow the EYFS. I need to find a way to get my staff involved in how they feel at club by means of a questionnaire. I was wondering if anyone has set questions they ask staff that you wouldn't mind sharing which could prompt me on how and what to ask my team? I need this info to put towards our action plans and show that i am involving all of the team. However - I am in a little bit of a situation at our club where I am the only qualified staff member at present but are hoping to recruit soon. My ot…

Hi all I am looking at doing my progress reports and doing it differently. However the issue I have is that when inputting the information provided by staff (I have to input for various reasons) I have become aware of a difference in grading between key workers. For example one key person grading a child who is not potty trained (39 months old) at a secure 22-36 months in health and self care and another key person grading their child (36 months) at emerging 22-36 months in health and self care as they are not potty trained. out of interest how would you all have graded?? also in moderation I am finding it quite hard to get the time to do it properly how do y…

Hey to all, I am having problems with my staff finding our planning system too much work and not getting to grips with it and was seeking some advice as to whether I am asking too much of my staff or do I need to be more firm?! Firstly we changed our planning in September due to reflecting on our previous planning system not being effective and was too much paperwork! Therefore we scrapped our weekly planning sheets and began using a next step approach where each key worker came up with 3 next steps for each child (1 psed, 1c&l, 1pd) ~ although they can be linked to a specific area (especially for those 3 years old or over) and then put an activity that will help deve…

Hi As we are at the start of January and we have a new intake starting next week I have been thinking about the way we run our day and wondered how it compared to other settings. I feel that we often miss out on the joy of a story time and singing session each day as some days we have other things going on. At the moment the children come in at the beginning of the session and have free flow play for the majority of the session 2 and 1/2 hours inside and outside is open for approximately 2 hours, then we pack up 1/2 hour before the end of session for a group activity - which is linked to many areas of the curriculum and can include a story but not always time then we ge…

Does anyone know whether there is a legal minimum age a person can pick up a child from Nursery, we have recently had an older sibling who is 16 come to pick up her younger brother, this was a one off and all the relevant checks were carried out. Any advice would be gratefully received as i don't seem to be able to find much information.

We're having a big push on language this term and we're making reading packs for parents, more to engage interaction then actually reading - so was just wondering if anyone has done this and what types have books you've used? Thank you x

Hello all, We follow the interest of the children when it comes to planning, we now want to plan for the first week the children comes back, struggling with ideas due to nursery closing down for Xmas, my line of thinking is a theme on winter/weather/ looking after us, following that loosely, and also including their interests when they get back.. expecting OFSTED so need to be prepared might turn up on the first day back.....

Firstly happy new year to you all Secondly its that time when I have to do a planning review- we are definitely overthinking this Can you tell me how many planned activities you may do in a day- I think our staff don't look at story times etc as activities do you link all your activities to learning intentions? Do your activities just 'happen' through the session or does the group stop to do? Can anyone share a planning sheet for activities? Sorry Ive asked so many questions this is already getting me down and Ive only be here a couple of hours!
