Teaching reading in a day nursery

Hi there, I was wondering if any one knew if we are allowed to teach reading in a day nursery, in our pre school room, we have several children who are more than capable and excited to start reading simple books. I and several other members of staff have EYPS but am not sure if this qualifies us to do "proper" reading with the children. Does any one else use rainbow stage books at nursery and to be sent home, if so are there any you recommend? Thanks for you help

"uses intonation, rhythm and phrasing to make the meaning clear to others" - can anyone tell me what the rhythm and phrasing part of this means and how i can reference it? "Extends vocab, especially by grouping and naming...." - This one! too "begins to break the flow of speech in to words" I am doing a staff meeting tomorrow night and these are the ones i cant explain - please help!

Hi all How do you make sure your planning shows how individual children's interests and needs are meet. I have 50 children on roll and they have free flow between three rooms which each have different areas of learning and they also use the garden daily. Staff members are in each room for a week at a time and they carry out daily planning. Thank you for you help in advance WellerKaren

Hi, I have been trying to find a discussion thread that was posted a while back discussing other children in photos in individual children's learning journeys. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction. Thanking you Scottiedog

Taking inspiration from the 'Tuff Spot' posts which have been SO inspirational - just what do you have in your water tray? This week we have a tea tray with tea pot, milk jug, sugar bowl, tea cups and saucers with tea bags.

Does anyone have any good, tried and tested strategies to encourage individuals to talk about or explain what they know? I have a very bright little boy at nursery (54m) who has many interests; however, if I ask him to tell me about something his reply is usually 'I don't know' - yet I know that he does, but he doesn't seem able to expand on a topic (which he has usually instigated). I don't 'put him on the spot' and I try to keep the conversation 'light' without him feeling pressured - often saying 'What do you think, James?' or 'I wonder ...' without showing that I would like him to contribute to the conversation. Any tips?

Toddler room Learning environment

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any advice or ideas for toddler rooms, we are currently re doing our toddler room (18months - 2 years) and would love some input from anyone with some experience with this age group. The room currently has a home corner, a creative table a ball pitt a baby gym, a quiet area/book corner and a couple of low level sensory trays which are rarely used. I realize that at this age, a lot of the children are displaying/exploring play schemas, so things are moved all over the room and so using this as inspiration I was hoping to create a more sensory based room. do you think that a home corner as such is really necessary, I don't see t…

I need some help please..... We have recently been inspected by Ofsted and came out with an ok result our issue was with our staff and their Learning Journeys. Our staff are having issues with the quality of their Observations, including when to write one, what to write and when to stop. Sometimes i feel like i have cracked it and that staff are doing well other times it feels like we are back to stage one. I have been a practitioner for 15 years and now feel like i am stuck. We have a staff training day scheduled for 7th May and i was hoping to do some inhouse training with the staff and was wondering if anyone had any advice, suggestions or had even carried out trainin…
