Can I ask do you Pick an aspect from each area of learning to focus on each week? If so do you get these from the focus childrens needs or choose based on a mini theme or can you explain? Do you then cover these in group/adult led times or just by adding things to the continious provision or? Thanks for your help in anticpation!

Hi, I'm new to all this and wondered if you guys could help me please. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do for a PE session, it can literally be anything physical! Its for 2-3 year olds so needs to be simple. I can use music. Also what other stories apart from the Gruffalo are good ones for the children to act out when I'm reading it to them? Any ideas or advice would be very much appreciated! Thank you!!! x

I work in a school nursery and am becoming embroiled in a somewhat heated debate!! We do focused obs on each key child each half term and also day to day notes. The teacher puts the notes into the children's records during her PPA updates the records and LJs. Each half term she tracks the progress and collates data to reflect this. Our reception class however are only collating data 3 times a year- baseline, mid year and year end. They apparently update records more often ( not convinced this is true!) but only collect the % below, in line and above 3 times. We are now under pressure to reduce our data tracking and are being told 3 times is good practice in EYFS. We feel…

Where to start!! I thought I had it Sussed but staff keep moaning!!!! To plan: each key person documents within the seven areas what their children are interested in/working towards- this is done once a term. Parents see it and contribute. Ongoing spontaneous obs and planned activities still going on around plans. Learning journey/development matters statements updates half termly. Staff say this is too much to be doing, my argument is its once a term to plan (updated if needed but over the term children can repeat and try in different ways), half termly learning journey and development mattered statements updated. Is this too much please help feeling rath…

Hi need your pearls of wisdom for Development Matters, Mathematics, Numbers 0-11: • Notices changes in number of objects/images or sounds in group of up to 3. (who on earth came up with this!) What types of thing do you use for evidence of this?? Typically the guidance in the document relates more to the 8-20 so we're trying to write our own...but have hit a wall!! It can't be that difficult as it's 0-11 or can it?

So.....first post (how exciting!) and I'm hoping to get some proof that we're doing things right or some ideas if we need to do a total overhaul of our planning! I really don't see the point of writing down endless things if we're not actually learning anything from them but would like to make sure I'm actually covering everything I need to. At the moment our planning goes like this..... Post it notes obs and an Interest/Needs book for staff to jot down anything a child shows particular interest in or any next steps we need to work on. This is then used for the weekly planning. Incorporating it where we can.....eg focused activities, a change of topic to refl…

ICT Question

Please can anyone help? I have an observation for performance management on Thursday. I have planned a music activity and found a brilliant resource that I'd like to use for the plenary. BUT the resource is a You Tube video which I can watch without problem on my laptop; however I have problems with using it at school. Whilst You Tube is filtered at school, I am able to override this but I need the video to be available at the end of the activity - unfortunately, our ICT technician tells me, the video will have 'switched off' (there's probably a far more technical term than that!) by the time I need it and I don't want to be fiddling around on the computer trying to go …
