Baseline questionaire

I wonder if any of you clever peeps can help! We are a preschool attached to a main school most of our children feed into the school. We currently form our baselne assessment through obs on the children but as our intake is staggered to ensure we can support our children to settle well it can be after half term before we manage to collate information for the whole group. We used to send out a questionaire to parents to aid our planning for individual needs and would like to revive this to use as initial baseline . Does anyone use a questionaire in this way and if so would you be willing to share an example? Thanks Biker.

Although we feel more confident with obs and assessment all the time, I still feel like I need someone to just talk me through a few things and this seems like the best place to ask for that help. We do have an LA advisor but everytime she has visited I feel like throwing in the towel and looking for that gardening job I should have gone for 20 years ago or just sitting down and weeping! When some children are already 53 months and will be 58 months when they leave us, is it ok to be giving them most of the Development Matters in 40-60 months? If so, what happens in Reception Class? Our local teacher asked us to give her a sheet of 30-50 months with their progress w…

Have done a couple of the children 2 year checks today and have had to mark them down on the health and self care because their are still in nappies and no signs of them coming out of them. Parents are not concerned nor our they worrid about starting to potty train them yet. Should we push for toilet training and make it a next step anywhere or just leave it.

Has anyone seen this? http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/resources/literacy-non-negotiable-learning-through-play-and-establishing-foundations I know a nursery class is very different from the pre-school where I work, as we have such a mix of ages, but I still can't imagine the majority of the pre-schoolers I have (who will be going up to reception in September) being able to write in sentences by the summer term! Does link in quite nicely with the government's resonse to the nutbrown review focussing more on 'teaching' in the early years though...

Hi all looking for some advice really. I have an extremely challenging child in the setting at the moment. Up until this term he took no notice of visuals at all, however they have just started to click (a little we aren't getting too excited) now the problem I wondered if now would be a good time to introduce a behaviour chart but what to use as the incentive or reward. He takes no notice of stickers, needs far more than a thumbs up kind of approach and doesn't have any toys or adult or children that he likes playing with enough to use. He loves the bikes but we have them out a lot any way and encourage him to use them to help manage the behaviour so it would not be…

Help needed with data!
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi All, I have been asked to create a 1 page document showing our Nursery On Entry data from 2003 - 2012. Your expertise is greatly appreciated. Ideas for formats / tables etc will be greatly welcomed. I am not a data person, I am really struggling and don't know where to start! The information is to show that year on year our children are coming to us at a lower starting point, so the progress that they make year on year is improving. If that makes sense. Thank you so much, all comments/help will greatly appreciated.

Hi all, This question might sound a bit silly or odd, so apologies. Can anyone please explain clearly what the difference is between planned and focused activities, to take back to staff meeting. Thanks
