Hi all I wondered if any of you wonderful, experienced and clever practitioners had any advice on selective mutism. The child in my setting that has this, chatters away at home fine but will only whisper the occasional few words at Pre-School. It is interfering with her social development as she is not able to join in fully with the complex play that her peers are engaging in. She is 4 years old and has been with us for a few months now. The nursery she attended before she came to us reported that she would not speak there either, despite going for 2 and a half years. They too just got the occasional whispered word, which of course, in a busy environment is very diffi…

Hi All, Has anyone got a good, sturdy CD player that they would recommend? I'd like to buy one which the children can use, as well as the staff. If there is space for headphones, then even better! Thanks!

Is there any way you can see the phrases that a child doesn't have yet. I like the way that you can click on and see all the phrases they have achieved in an observation but it would be useful to see in a list of all the ones they haven't achieved yet? I might be missing it!

changing planning

Morning everyone! Recently my nursery have started to plan for the individual child! It's going really well, everyone likes it, but my quality manager feels we need an overall focused activity plan for each room. I am trying to steer them away from so much paperwork as I want to plan 'In the moment' eventually. My question I suppose is does anybody else plan this way and can offer me any advice? We have enough paperwork to do already  Thank you!

Hi Everyone, I am a Play leader of a small Playgroup and we have just embarked on using Tapestry!! We are also looking to change our weekly planning format that we use. At the minute a lot of our session is very much child initiated but would like to introduce a more structured session with child initiated play still encouraged. I would really appreciate anyone willing to share their weekly planning format and how you complete this to also include individual children's interests and next step's and the ways in which you run a typical session. Many Thanks to you all ::1a ::1a ::1a

hi I am looking for any simple but effective planning ideas! We currently have a sheet we have to write on weekly which is Childs interests, then it says new skills, then planning for next week. I do not find it that effective as it goes on for weeks and weeks, not really a focus or end goal to it. Spoke to Management they suggested focus around Schemas or In the moment planning if any one could help or share ideas I will be very grateful! Thank you

Tracking children's progress

I run a nursery class and am moving from reviewing children's progress termly to half termly by making summative assessments at those points. Are other settings being required to do the same and what are your experiences? For example children can look like they haven't made progress as they can be 'Developing' in 30-50 months for awhile as their learning needs time to embed.
