Afternoon all, So we had our development officer in today and although largely positive, she has made some suggestions for improvements. One of which was our rolling snack bar. She recommended that children self register in for snack so we can monitor who has eaten and who hasn't. My question is, does anyone else have this type of system in place and how is it implemented? TIA

Hi everyone, I am trying to find some ideas of resources to put into both in door and outdoor areas to provide excitement for the children. we change our resources according to the children's interests but are not always great at finding those resources which either provide challenge or excitement for the children. Feeling really increative atm possibly due to sef and policy workload.

Hi just wondering if any settings out there go for regular walks, for example to local rivers or woodlands? We have insurance, permissions and risk assessments for local walks to the park, shops and immediate local environment, however we would like to introduce some forest school inspired activities and den building in the nearby woodland, does anybody know if there would be anything extra we would need to do? there is a small shallow river running through the woodland, do we need to notify Ofsted with us being near water? Or would it just be a case of risk assessing and being extra vigilant and increasing ratios? Thanks in advance everyone.

Plan do review help please
by Guest- 2 replies

Hi, First time on here so hello everyone! I need some help with plan, do, review - we are making changes and have visited a school that does plan, do, review but I'd like to know how others do it. The plan is to do a welcome carpet session, group time (adult focused activity- how does this work? Even with 4 adults we will have 10 children each, trying to do activities with all these children is going to be difficult!) then snack, plan, do, review and lunch with session repeated in the afternoon. Do you put anything out for the children or is it all self-selected? Any recommended reading? Thank you ?

Is anyone out there doing the Nick Hind creative curriculum in their school? I'm having trouble getting my head round this way of planning and would appreciate some pointers!

Hi, I've seen it once but now can't find it (Didn't get round to saving it when I saw it originally!) But somewhere I've seen all the areas of development for ages 2 upwards on 2 pages of A3 (I think that's what it is anyway lol - a page twice the size of a4) that is used for tracking a child's development - if anyone knows what I'm talking about do you know where I could find it please??

HI Everyone, We are thinking at our Nursery of investing in the computerised software 2simple. [ Using Ipads and Iphones to record / assess children's learning and development with reports and planning generated via PC ] Does anyone use it already? Would love to hear from you of any problems you have had or whether its the bees knees in keeping child profiles paper trail low.

Hi, at the moment I have a box with word cards in, first-dictionary type books and a display with different types of writing in my mark-making area but find that the children don't really use the cards or the books to support their writing even when shown. They like looking throught the word cards and using them as tickets in the role-play area but they don't really go to find one to help them to write a word. I want something to support and extend those children who like writing and are forming recognisable letters. Any ideas? I'm thinking words like 'mummy' 'daddy' etc - which I have cards for but it's just a generic picture of a 'mummy' so it's not always clear what …

Messy hands!
by Guest- 7 replies

I have a couple of children at the moment who have a real issue with "messy" hands. They attempt to glue, paint, play tactile but as soon as they get anything on their hands get really panicky and have to wash/wipe it off. Then that ends that play in that area no matter how hard I try to distract and play. One child even cried because he was "messy" and it was the smallest dip of glue that I wiped immediately. I spoke to the parents and they said they don't encourage them to get messy but have not discouraged it either. I let them borrow an apron from the setting and some gluey sticking bits. Result was he refused to even try at home and mum said she wasn't keen on pushin…
